Our lovely boy is at the vets atr the moment - it looks as if he might have a blockage and will need an operation. Poor boy is very uncomfortable. Was fine till yestersay afternoon but then je just would not settle and was whining. He then was sick - grass and a whole carrot. Took him to the vet and they gave him some laxative, anti-inflammatory etc. Ate only 1 chickenwing for dinner but refused anything else. After a restless night he sicked the chickenwing up again and it was still whole and undigested. B ack to the vets. They are taking x-rays etc now and then we will decide what to do. He was 11 in March and is not the healthiest of dogs and nowadays English Setter fall apart at the age of 10 so it is a big worry .

My thoughts are with you.........Hope everything is OK :bouquet: :bouquet: :bouquet:

Reiki on the way Tiz :-*
-
Update from vet, x-ray shows several small very hard obstructions and lots of gas,- but does not look like tumor, so they are operating on him now.
-
Glad to hear it doesn't look like a tumour :-* Thinking of you both and sending him 'get well' thoughts :)

I hope you get good news, Tiz. Dogs and children break your heart :bouquet:

He has been operated on and the good news is that nothing sinister has been found. The strange thing is that the small intestne had a lot of VERY hard poo that he just could not pass. No inflamation in the gut. No foreign object. Just a lot of liquid in the stomach and this very hard poo formed into small pellets. Vet has no idea what has caused it, and will keep him overnight on a drip and will see how he fares in the morning. Trust Pedro to have something really strange. Do not know whether to be relieved or more worried now.
-
How strange ???
Sounds like a lot of water has been reabsorbed too soon.....? Does he drink well?
-
Very glad to hear the news so far. Have you had suddenly very hot weather, as we have? If so, could it be not drinking enough water / taking on enough salts, or similar?
-
Im probably being thick here, but I assume you havent changed his diet in any way. I know that a lot of elderly folks have problems like this in the pooh department, my mother being a prime example. Do they do some sort of fibregel for dogs to keep him regular?
I'll be keeping everything crossed that he is back to his fit and healthy self very soon. Pets are such a worry aren't they?

:bouquet: get well soon :dog: pedro

Hope he recovers well from what must be a traumatic event for all of you.

Hope Pedro is well again soon. :bouquet: And that you two don't lie awake worrying tonight.

best wishes for Pedro :bouquet: :dog:

Pedro - get well soon :-* :-* . Whole chicken wing? That would worry me :-\ maybe everything in little pieces, easily digested, and with plenty of liquid :) just a suggestion, not trying to preach as I know how difficult it is to get a sick animal to eat anything ::) - been there so often...
-
Just coming from vets. He is not that well. Apparently last night they were really worried about him - why didn't they phone? This morning he was really well first thing but was not mad on food. We boiled some fish for him and took it, but also he was very pleased to see us he would not eat anything. Before he doesn't eat we will not know whether his digestive system will work ok. He got very lethargic and depressed and his gums are very pale. He is also peeing an awful lot and it is quite dark in colour. Will finish doing animals here and then we will go back and try him on some chicken and maybe a scrambled egg. If we only knew what is the cause of it all it would help. So please keep your fingers crossed for our boy.
-
What pain meds is he home with? Is he sore if you feel his belly and gently push it? Get him back to the vets as could have an infection (common after gut surgery) if his pee is dark he could be dehydrated which will make him feel rubbish. Go bk for a check up just to make sure.

They'll have checked his kidney function?
-
Sending lots and lots of love and hugs to you all :-*
Dark urine can be a liver problem as well as a kidney one but you'd have expected the vets to have taken blood and checked for that. The paleness and not wanting to eat, with the dark urine could be haemolytic - but the vets would know that :-\

Any Pedro news today. He is at the top of my healing vibes list.
-
Pedro being Pedro just keeps giving us nearly heart failure. Phoned vet first thing this morning - he has eaten some chicken but then sicked it all up a bit later - vet very concerned, all vets having a discussion, more blood taken. We quickly did all the urgent jobs here so we can jump in the car as soon as we can see him. Then vet phoned as it turned out what they thought to be vomit turned out to be a lot of very watery diarrhea and then he also passed a solid poo. However, all this really took it out of him and he is totally exhausted and dehydrated and also has a very high temperature. More blood being taken and we can go this afternoon to visit and bring him a bit more chicken - as long as the trip helps him.
-
How very stressful. Thinking of you all. Come on pedro think strong thoughts :bouquet:
-
I'm sending all the positve healing vibes I can from me and my 3 setters :bouquet: Hope he has a better day today. ( and the poo is really good news  )

We just went to the vets to take some cooked chicken in for Pedro and were met at the door by the vet with the news that he had died a few minutes before we got there, they are now doing a PM on him to find out what happened. We will let you know the results.
Thank you all for your messages and kind thoughts.

Oh no, I'm so sorry :-*

Sending sympathy to you all :bouquet: to see the lovely photo of pedro brings tears to my eyes after following his illness. ((hugs))
-
We have just got him back from the PM and now he's next to his Mother and Auntie in the garden.
PM found that the stitches they did in the colon to remove the hard lumps had torn the gut wall and released foecal matter into the abdomen, so it was peritonitis that actually killed him, the root cause of it all still remains a mystery.

im sorry to hear about pedro tiz. best wishes.
