Title: Movements
Post by: NZelmo on May 28, 2012, 05:12:40 pm
Hi all,

We are planning on setting up a flock in a couple of weeks, and will be getting our sheep from two sources, and were planning on having them delivered on the same day.  Is this allowed, or do they have to be 13 days apart?

Many thanks

No problem ,the standstill only affects you selling sheep not buying :farmer:

To be slightly more specific, the standstill kicks in after you move animals on to your holding. For six days after the last movement on to your farm you cannot move anything off again. You can move as much stock on as you like.

As VSS says but as you mentioned 13 days perhaps you are in Scotland - where the standstill is 13 days.  The exception to the 'nothing off for 6/13 days' rule is if the animals are going to slaughter.
You might want to isolate the two groups from eachother for a couple of weeks in case one lot is bringing on some nasties such as orf, and it is a good idea to worm all new stock, then keep them in overnight on hard standing so you can sweep up and destroy their contaminated dung - that way you will start out with a nice healthy, clean flock  :sheep: :sheep:
