Hi, I had arranged with my shearer to do our flock pre-lambing in March but the weather was so utterly foul that we had to cancel. I didn't want the girls losing condition through rain and cold at such a crucial time. We postponed to May but the shearer now cannot come until the end of June. If a cancellation occurs then he may be able to come earlier but there's no guarantee. Now the weather problems are at the opposite end of the spectrum and my sheep are getting both subject to heatstroke and are very vulnerable to the possibility of flystrike (I have seen blowflies around and about) as the wool is rising leaving a lovely warm pocket for the flies to take up residence. Does anyone know of a really good, careful shearer covering my area (South Lincs) who can cope with a flock of around 50 sheep? I'm shearing by hand in piecemeal but it's going to be impossible for me to get through them all.
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried the Singing Shearer?
-
I've got the same problem Amanda, mine are already succumbing to flystrike - two have had it already! I was going to get mine done in the colder weather but the shearer said he'd be in my area later - now I can't get him soon enough >:(

Hi Plums, my usual shearer is the Singing Shearer. He's just chockablock right now. Just hoping Phil gets a cancellation. Gill, so sorry to hear that you've already got cases. Did you catch it in good time?
-
Yes, both cases were on the rump/hind legs and it was obvious they were struck. I wouldn't be surprised if I find more as many of them are scratching. I thought one of the Gotlands also had it (not yours) as she was running around and acting funny, but I clipped most of her fleece off and she didn't.

Hello folks,
I know this post is very old now but in case anyone is still looking for a good local shearer, I have one. My husband Daniel is experienced and v good with sheep. He has been shearing for years and has worked with sheep on his family farm since childhood. We only moved to Lincs a couple of years ago and so have not built up a full portfolio of local shearing jobs yet. His details are on his website www.danieldoes.co.uk (http://www.danieldoes.co.uk).
We are based in South Lincs, daniel is happy to travel for shearing jobs if his travel costs are covered,
Do get in touch if you need a shearer and fell free to pass on his details.
