Title: What age to wean.
Post by: Berkshire Boy on May 18, 2012, 12:04:09 pm
What sort of age would you wean a Dexter calf. A friend is selling his cow that has a calf about 2 months old, is that too young to wean?

Waaaayyyyy too young.  I rear calves on my Jersey house cow, they need to be at least three months old and eating a pound or two of cake in order to be weanable, in my opinion.

Thanks Sally and Robert
I thought that was the case, what I have done is agreed to buy the cow as long as the calf comes as well and I will wean him and then my mate can have him back.
