Title: I've just treated myself
Post by: Bionic on May 16, 2012, 11:07:54 am
I have just placed an order for a KitchenAid Artisan food mixer in Empire Red.

It costs an arm and a leg but I have wanted one for sooo long.  It will arrive tomorrow and I can't wait.

Yes - what's the difference betwen that and a magimix?

Probably the price  ;D It is costing £409.

These are the mixers that they seem to have on all of the cooking shows. They are American but these are made for the UK market. I wanted to buy one when I was in the US last year. Could have got it at $365 which would have been a substantial saving but the voltage is different. If you use them with a UK adaptor it invalidates the guarantee.

This is what I bought. The customer service at this company is also great.  Order today before 3pm and I should get it tomorrow.

I need to go and buy lots of things for baking now  ;D

That looks fab.  Having a handle on the bowl is so useful.

we use kitchen aid, there is an Achilles heal to them which is the on-off and speed switch. they tend to get a little loose with age and work. well worthwhile taking the extended warranty so if this happens you can get it fixed! we have one that we have to use an elastic band on to make sure it stays switched off!  other than that they are red hot and tuff as old boots!

happy cooking!!  :yum:

Oooooh looks lovely. I love the waffle maker - we had one like that when we were kids. Dad was going to fix it 40 years ago....... I think I'll just get a new one now :-))

Suzique I decided not to have the waffle maker as my free gift as it is just tooo tempting.

I lived in the US for 6 months last year and put on so much weight that I still haven't lost.  :(

Do let me know how you get on with it. I have been trying to choose between a KitchenAid and a Magimix. With the prices that they both charge, I don't want to choose the wrong one! :)

I've been fantasising about a kitchen aid and waffle maker. I can see it's going to become inevitable soon........

Do you think it is a better option than a kenwood chef? My faithful chef is really on it's last legs and if I'm going to spend the proverbial arm and leg on a new mixer I want it to be the best.

I've never had a Kenwood so can't compare. I just know I have been hankering after the Kitchenaid for ages.  I used it for the first time today and made pastry, something I have always done by hand before. It was really quick and I was very pleased with results.
I am off now to whisk some egg whites as I am making a lemon meringue.

My favourite, would you like to get married ?  ;D

Moleskins,
Your offer may be a bit premature as you haven't tried the pie yet but I must say it was very good.

I made a chocolate guinness cake yesterday which is lovely too.

I'm a Kitchen Aid fan, much prefer it to the Kenwood Chef I used to have. It seems to whisk better IMO.

Well if you've eaten it, that's it, the weddings off.

My next wife will be able to drive, shop quickly and enjoy making lemon meringue pie
and pancakes with lemon and sugar. Not necessarily in that order and not necessarily
the full list.  ;D ;D

V Jelous - love the look of Kitchen aid... But I have a Kenwood, probably because my mother had a Kenwood  (40 years old and still going strong)  ;D .  It IS fab, but not pretty :-[ .
I can vouch for KA customer service though - I bought one of their Molten cast iron pans from TK MAx (in the days when I was near such shops!).  The enamel exploded off the bottom after a couple of cooks, I couldnt find my reciept and they still replaced it. :D  V Happy. Now I have a knackered one which I use outside on open fires and a tidy one for the stove.

I want this!!!

http://www.simac-pastamatic.co.uk/ (http://www.simac-pastamatic.co.uk/)

Have very fond memories of my mum's one, when we used to make lots of different shapes of pasta on Sundays.

The price on the UK website is ridiculous (£263), but I found on ama zon is about £50 cheaper and on the Italian is even better at ~£140!
That's the way to go  :D

Now, when is Xmas/my next birthday??  :eyelashes:

Wow, that looks good but think that maybe I am too lazy to use one.
I do have a pasta making machine though (the sort that you roll the dough through several times) I got it on freecycle so can't complain but have only used it a couple of times.

Bionic, getting one of those pasta machines is actually the point for who's too lazy to make it by hand!!  ;D

I have the Kenwood chef.  I like having a lid on the mixer bowl because I 'scite' things all over the place.  :-[ Does the Kitchenaid bowl have a lid?

Mine came with a sort of plastic thing that fits round the rim. Not exactly a lid in the usual meaning of the word but I guess thats what it is. It certainly stops flour and stuff from going all over the place.
