Title: Decapitated Crow
Post by: Bangbang on May 14, 2012, 11:29:18 pm
We found a decapitaed crow in our small forest
but we have no idea what could have done it.
Ther is no sign of damage other than it head being
a foot from its body.

Anyone got any ideas of what animal would do that ?  :o

We lost a duck last week and no sign of its body, but a load of feathers just
6m from the cottage.

I thought there could be a fox in the area, after reading your replies it basically confirmed it.

Cheers everyone! now where's my gun. Bangbang!

Brucklay Estate has been sold off in sections over the last few years
and last month the Gamekeeper Terry who has worked the estate for about 20 years got given
one months notice on his job and cottage! We used to see his lamps at night
searching the area for foxes.

In 4 years we've never had a problem - till now
He must have been doing his job then.

Will do. Mmmm, should the bait be tied to a tree or just left to roam the forest ?

The problem these days is insurance cover for using live bait in such cercumstances.
I've just tried We-Bait-Our-Trees.com but asked to many questions...how old? good working
order? low milage? would you want replacement cover?
So I'll use a castlemilk lambi instead .......here lilly pockets!!!!!got some rope for you..

Fox, I lost 17 ducks years ago and this is what she did, I think she was teaching cubs to kill.Terrible for the Bruckley gamekeeper to lose not only his job but his home as well.

My money is on the fox too. They sometimes kill lambs and only take the head away. That really annoys me because if he was hungry he would eat the lot.

Look at the feathers of the dead duck, if they are complete (plucked) it was a bird of prey, if most are sheared (bitten off) its Foxy, decapitated birds could be any off the Falcons, but generally then followed with plucked feathers.
