Unfortunately, Jinty is down on the floor again.
I noticed on Friday evening that she appeared to be scratching herself, as in her back leg was going up and down towards her body. Saturday, she ate her breakfast and seemed fine. Went to a local farm sale, then to collect a large bale of straw. Fully intended calling in on Little Blue in the afternoon, so called back at the farm to check the animals, and give kids bottles.
Found Jinty flat out, like she was before. So far, her neck is not twisted back, but her legs are moving like windmills. Having said that, she is not as bad as she was last timne.
Why its come back, I do not know.

Sorry to hear that, Roxy. Hope it's just a blip and she'll be ok tomorrow.
-
How is Jinty now? I do hope she is improved,
You have both been through so much already!

Oh no, she was doing so well. Hopefully it's just a temporary thing and she'll keep on the upwards (and upright!) recovery path :-*
-
Keeping my fingers crossed for her - hope she picks up
-
Such a shame, hope she improves

Well, she is still eating, but still down on the floor flat out. Her eyes are not flicking back in her head like they were last time, and her neck seems fine .......but its strange it has come back on her again. She has not had any haylage, just good quality hay, so cannot say its the haylage this time. I am wondering if it WAS Listeria, or indeed something else.
-
Meningitis would be my first thoughts........ heavy duty antibiotics will be essential plus live yoghurst to keep her rumen working. Yoghurt may well be more efficient that any of the other rumen starters.
-
Fingers crossed for a full recovery :bouquet:

did the vet take any samples?
poor Jinty, when she was starting to get better... and you could do with a break.
best wishes for a good recovery,
and lovely as it would have been to see you & feed you cake, we completely understand :)
-
Got antibiotics in her right away, and spooning yogurt down her, too. No worse, but no better either :(

Keep us informed

What an idiot - and I do remember checking as well - brain not working - need a new hard drive. How is she doing any signs she's on the up?

Hi Roxy,
How are things? Thinking of you.
Suzanne.

sorry to hear this, hope she improves.

Sad news I am sorry to say.
After thinking long and hard, I decided I could not keep Jinty going any longer. Although not as bad as the first time, in that she was not blind, her eyes not rolling back etc. she was still down flat out, and rigid, and did not appear to be making progress - ie not trying to get up. She was still eating and drinking, and enjoying the leaves I collected for her.
Its not an easy decision to make, but even had I got her up on her feet again, there is no saying whatever it was would come back.
Such a shame though, but I think I made the right decision, as I had given her every chance to get better.

Oh no what a tough call - but you have given it a good go and for her sake you will know what's best for her - so sorry
-
A really difficult decision, well done for facing it. You've tried longer than most would.
Thoughts and prayers with you and hoping for some better luck from now on.
-
The right decision...I really feel for you.....you get more than averagely attached to somebody you have nursed so carefully.
Big hugs from me & her cousins
-
So sorry about Jinty, you tried so hard, but sometimes we have to accept we can't win, you gave her much more than many would, (not meaning anyone on this forum :) ),and she obviously was well loved, a hard decision after all the caring you've done, but well done, hugs from me as well, take care.
-
I didn't see your original posts about Jinty's illness but I have experienced listeria and it sounds very similar. :bouquet: Good luck.
-
