Title: Types of wormers?
Post by: moprabbit on May 08, 2012, 07:45:05 am
I recently posted  a query about worming lambs and ewes and thank you for your replies. Sorry ... I now have another query... what type of wormers to use. I've heard of the  'white drenches' and the ones based on Ivermectin and I think there are some others called Levamisoles? I was wondering if anyone could suggest 2 or 3 brand names that I could get that are of different types but would compliment eachother to use in rotation and would be effective against all the worm types (including tapeworms) and possibly fluke. I would prefer to use drenches rather than injections! Thank you again.

dont worry about brand names, look for the active ingredient and then see which ones cheapest.
Also bare in mind that some kill adult fluke and some kill fluke at all stages and some are just wormers.

I currently use Combinex, which is a levamisole and triclabendazole wormer, but I'm thinking of moving to cydectin injections as on balance, I think Id rather inject, seems quicker to administer and has a 35 day protection period for you to get them moved to cleaner pastures.

Take a look at this:
http://www.hccmpw.org.uk/medialibrary/publications/know%20your%20anthelmintic%20groups%20factsheet%202010%20english%20final.pdf (http://www.hccmpw.org.uk/medialibrary/publications/know%20your%20anthelmintic%20groups%20factsheet%202010%20english%20final.pdf)

Is a handy guide of what's on offer in each of the groups. Tells you which are injection/drench too and withdrawal lengths.
