Finally our last castlemilk produced twins yesterday evening - first a ram lamb while my back was turned after working outside all day and keeping an eye on her from a distance. Picked him up and while OH was on gate duty and got her into a pen in the shed - during a snow shower I add. While doing the goats hay I was in and out and then she produced a second but so tiny I couldn't believe it - literally half the size of her brother. Not too great on guessing weight but having taken another to the vet for a bit of fluid on the lungs found he weighed 2.5 kilo and I believe yesterdays ram lamb to be about the same which would make the wee ewe lamb just over a 1 kilo. She does seem perfectly formed though and drinks from mum - in very little sessions. Glad she's inside to keep the night chill off her - pictures to follow

Looking forward to the pics Brucklay!
A vet told me that when you get one-and-a-half lambs, it'll often be that there were triplets; one in one horn and two in the other. One of the two will have died / been reabsorbed, but the other of that pair will be smaller at birth than the one-in-a-horn one. It'll catch up though!

Congratulations - on their arrival and on lambing bring over
If the little one is drinking well I'm sure she'll catch up - they seem to. And yes, it's tiny amounts for a tiny stomach :sheep:

Thanks Jaykay and Sally - certainly at first I thought she wouldn't make it through the night but she's still here. That makes sense Sally hadn't thought of that. In fact I was in and out and the ewe was standing and I heard a plop and expected the afterbirth only to find a lamb!! So it didn't even warant any pushing - nice for mum I guess

Sounds like a reabsorbed twin to me too. When a lamb is reabsorbed, the placenta development in that horn of the uterus is restricted and the remaining lamb never catches up.

Well done, don't worry , the little one will catch up, they're as tough as old boots , anyway, stop reading this and get the camera out c'm on , don't just sit there.

Hope they both do well.

Oh she's tiny, but perfectly formed , no doubt she will soon catch up. you will have to call her 'LILLI' as in Lilliput.
Is that a giant glove? I don't like girls with large hands, but girls with small hands are OK as they make my willy look big. ??? :sheep:

absolutely gorgeous

I had a pair of Shetland lambs like this, two males and by the time they were weaned I couldn't tell which one had been the tiny one... As long as she gets looked after by the ewe she will catch up.

Naughty Tizaala ;D ;D - OH's glove, I would say medium - Lilli it is, she's just so sweet - easy to see how some lambs wiggle their way into your affections - the first male lamb we had follows me about demanding crunchies from my hand, to him being hand fed it better than the bucket and loves to sit on my knee and get a cuddle :) :)
