Title: Funny but sad story
Post by: Bionic on May 05, 2012, 10:58:00 am
I was thinking of my dad this morning, for no apparent reason, and remembered this incidence.

Dad used to breed and show canaries, infact in the 1970's one of his canaries one a world championship in Buenos Aires.

If his canaries wern't up to show standard he would sell them to people as pets.

An elderly lady came for a pet bird that would sing so he gave her a cock bird and told her that the bird would like to eat a bit of greenstuff once a week.

The lady came back a few weeks later and said the bird had died. Dad was at a loss until it turned out that a bit of greenstuff once a week was all the lady had given the bird, no seed or water.

The moral of this tale is never assume that anyone knows what they need to do.

My dad had border canaries and I had gloucester.  I liked them because they have hair cuts like the Beatles did.

I once had a canary called Jake the Peg because he had lost a toe.  Unfortunately he went on to lose the rest so couldn't perch and had to be put down.  Right til the end he sang his little heart out.

My OH sold his chickens to a local guy who brought them back some time later saying that they were no good, their feathers had all come out and their skin had gone all red. Turned out the stupid man had kept them in his greenhouse  :o
