Title: Poultry House Construction (also posted on buildings)
Post by: suziequeue on May 04, 2012, 07:26:35 am
Hi - I have bought Michael Roberts' book on Poultry Construction - part of the Golden Cockerel series.

Anybody have any experience of building his designs?

Many of the diagrams are annotated with "x 5 off" or "x 2 off" (see photo)

Does anybody know what this means?

I made the little run with the house at the end - cant find my book to see which page and I've used it for ideas too. I don't expect I followed it properly, I'm always adapting things but I found it useful I remember.

I assumed the x5 off was x5 of, ie cut 5 of these. But as I said, I tend to look at the pictures and go from there rather than actually follow instructions closely.

x 5 off meaning you need 5 of them.

The image shows 57.5" x 2" x 1" x 5 off (5 of them)

This is how I would read it.

I hope this helps

I was a draughtsman in a previous life. '5 off' certainly does mean 'make and fit 5 of these as shown'. I have built all but two of our coops and make design sketches as you have shown for easy reference on the next unit.
