Question as I now have more than 4 adult Shetlands do I have to sell their fleeces to bwmb? Or can I ask for exemption for home use?

Particularly if your Shetlands are coloured, the Wool Board won't be interested in them. If you are spinning them or having them spun up yourself you don't need to bother with the Wool Board. If you intend to show your fleeces then you have to have a Wool Board number, but even then you don't have to sell to them, or get their permission to sell elsewhere. We have far more than 4 sheep and have never sold fleece to the Wool Board, who for many years past have offered something like 2p per kg for Heb fleeces and then they charge far more than that to collect them. :sheep:

Do I still need to register with them though?

If you intend to sell them privately or use them yourself NO!
It will cost you an awful lot more to get your fleeces to South molten than you will get back!!! Now if you had a woolsack full of clean, rolled white shetland it just might pay your petrol ....!
