Title: broody
Post by: Crazyboutdaanimals on April 26, 2012, 08:18:06 pm
my broody has not sat on her eggs she had been on them since the 17th, so only just over a week, she had kicked one egg out already, but today i found her pacing the cage, and i had noticed her doing this about half hr earlier, unfortunately, her eggs where stone cold :( however when i took her out of the cage, and attempted to pick up the eggs, she went to attack me (unlike her usually when not broody), is there a chance she is still broody but all the eggs were infertile??? ???

How old is she Crazy? It sounds like she's had enough rather than them all being infertile. You could candle them to have a look for development, just for future reference, as you need to know if she is a reliable broody. If she is under two years old try her again next year.

Ahhh ... my daughter was insistent that one of her young peekins had gone broody. She had only just started laying. Didnt put anything under her and she soon got bored and gave up the idea whereas the older hens are very insistent that they ARE going to sit and dont give up without a stint in the .... No you dont  wire cage.

Think chrismahon could be right.
