Title: Hungry lamb and retained afterbirth
Post by: colliewoman on April 26, 2012, 07:45:07 pm
Bugger!
Went to see the sheep this tea time and littlest lamby Jupiter is all hunched back and wrinkly sides. Trying every few seconds to drink from mum but clearly isn't getting enough :(
Got the bottle out again and topped up and she's looking much happier.
Now for a question...
This is the lamb who was mal presented and mum had a really rough time of it, she still hasn't dropped her afterbirth and we are on day 5 post partum. Apart from keeping up the ABX cover is there anything I can do to help her pass this, or do I let nature take it's course? It's now trailing on the ground behind her ???
Any help much appreciated once again, I honestly thought I'd cracked this one ::)

Oh colliewoman ..... sorry.

Did read on a website about Soay to tie the afterbirth so that it doesnt drag on the ground, not to pull and to seek vet. advice.

Hope she is okay ... poor love.

Oh I should have added, mum is absolutely fine in herself. Eating well and attending to her lamb perfectly, just still no milk and trailing this afterbirth ::)
