Any one got any ideas what this is on my gooseberry leaves ? It did it last year as well. It doesn't seem to affect the plants (but it must do). some research was done last year but couldn't find what it is. It's not on every leaf, but it dose seem to spread to more and more leaves as the season goes on.

I would like to be able to treat it if I can, but I haven't got a clue with what.

Hi Bert,
I think it could be gooseberry rust.

Thanks for that , now I have a starting point I can google it and find out how to treat it.

Hi leghorn
I've had a look at that web site it's amazing any gooseberry plants ever survive with all the things they can get :o .
Thank you.

You could try sending the photo to www.gardenorganic.org.uk (http://www.gardenorganic.org.uk). They will be able to identify it.

Thanks Mad Goatwoman of Madeley , I will give that ago

have you tried to cut the red stuff open? it looks a bit like the damage holly leaf miner beetle does to holly leaves. have a dig around under a good magnifying glass or eye glass

deepinthewoods that is a fantastic idea ;D People who know me never suggest that I should play with sharp things ::) I will do open leaf surgery on one of the little red buggers  .
