Title: elderly F goose looking for a new home
Post by: Izzy on April 24, 2012, 11:12:46 am
I have a friend Bert who had a small flock of geese. The gander died suddenly and one girl hung around a bit and then took off for good on Easter Sunday. Bert has hunted high and low for her without success. He is left with a very old female who seems quite happy. He'd like to know if there are any flocks of geese out there who'd welcome a new addition.

I don't know the breed but I could find out more or get some photos if there's anyone interested. We are in west Stirlingshire. I'm sure Bert would deliver although he hasn't specifically said so.

I don't know much about geese so perhaps rehoming an elderly girl is an absolute no-no. Don't jump and criticise please! The geese were originally Bert's wife's pets and he has kept them since she died but I sense that he is ready to move on.

Hi Izzy, some geese are choosy about who they befriend - it would be better for her long term if you post a pic so we can tell you what breed she is (she may be a cross breed of course).

hi, she could come and join our gang. plenty of room and company for lonely girls here!

we have 2 boys and one girl, getting another 2 girls tonight, so that would be ideal actually, each gander would have 2 wives, perfection in gooseworld!

i'm in ayrshire, would be willing to meet somewhere partway if required.

Thank you goosepimple for your reply and tazbabe for your kind offer. Bert says Dodo is a Toulouse and here she is from earlier today. This should link to a vid on Youtube

Are you still interested tazbabe? I hope so. Let me know and I will speak to Bert. I'm so excited!

PS I'm pretty sure Bert would deliver to Ayrshire.

she looks lovely, but as you say, loneloy, poor girl!

we got our 2 newbies last night, and they have settled in fine, went straight out into the field today and came in to bed tonight like they had been doing it for years, clever girls.

yes, there is a home for her here if she needs us!

Hello tazbabe.

For an unknown reason when I started this quest I called my friend Bert when his name is Bob. Now that is just making things more complicated. So now I'll call him Bob.

I've just spoken to Bob. He is thrilled to hear about your kind offer. He's not allowed personal internet at work so he cannot contact you online today. I'll pm you his mobile number. If you'd rather he rang you then pm your number(s) and I'll text them to him.

He is going to Ayrshire tomorrow to visit a relative's new baby but I'm not sure if we can pull things together that quickly.

Happy poultry = happy people!

plans all pulled together! :) :)

a slight change of plan though........ it occured to me yesterday that my mother also has a lone elderly lady goose.......and i thought bobs older lady might not fancy the company of my younger gang especially the boys.........so now the two old ladies  are going to keep each other company from today.

love a happy ending!
