Today is the 23rd birthday of my horse Sabrina. She has been out on loan for the past few years but it was always my plan that by the time she was in her twenty's she would be retired and back home. Has not happened yet due to the fact she enjoys her life of hacking and still doing the odd fun show with Tracey. Even the vet says she does not look her age or act it. Her field mate is a gelding called Herbie owned by Louise Tracey's sister. They are both very pampered horses and when I visit all Sabrina is interested in is what have I bought her. Born black she is now almost a very sliver grey. I miss her face over the stable door but I know she is happy and that's what counts.

Happy birthday, Sabrina
My chum's Fell pony, Sheba, is 27 and going strong (and I do mean going strong ;D) She's incredible.

She still acts like a young thing but beginning to look older now. I bred her myself and although I had to stop riding years ago could not bare to sell her hence she has been out on loan. I found keeping her at home just standing in the field depressed her to the point that she hated the Shetland ponies as they got to go to shows. Every time we went out with the trailer she would tear up and down her paddock. She had be used to going out to compete most weekends over the summer and loved the excitmeant. Much as I miss her I know she is well looked after and very loved. The whole livery yard where she is adore her and last year they had a small dressage show which she won over the fancy warmbloods and TB. Never has a horse given me so much and my love for her is far more important than any money I could have got selling her. She was very well know and plenty would have wanted her but I needed to be sure that she would be safe for the rest of her life.

Bit late with this, but my pony turned 23 on the same day, 19th of April!
My girlie is still firing on all cylinders (a bit much so at times), it's lovely to hear of others who are still going strong in their 20's! Long may it continue for both of them!

Lovely thread, i really miss my old boy he would have been 30 this May, i had to have him PTS last year. Look after the old ones they give so much pleasure.

its odd tho to see them getting older, when you are used to them being young. Our old chap is 20 and we got him when he was six, It is only the greying temples over his eyes and a bit of a sagging back that gives away his age, to us he is still six!

Sabrina, Many Happy Returns of the day!! Hope your special Birthday brings you lots of great titbits and cuddles!! My own lovely girl is heading towards 20 now, although like yours and Lachlandmarcus behaves like a yearling, especially on sunny days or when the wind gets up her tail!!
May Tracey have many more happy hacking years as I remember my first pony being 28, that when I had him - he's probably still going stong now!! What is so heartening to hear is that you didn't pass her on, as so many people do, and you've found her a great home!!
Celebrate the oldies-but-youngies-at-heart!!
