Title: Hello from Dorset
Post by: richardtheboffin on April 08, 2012, 05:50:36 pm
I have just managed to aquire a little over 4 acres of pasture a stones throw from our house.

I bought it as an investment but would also like to have a smallholding for some animals etc. I'm retired so I have time to look after them!

There seems to be a sudden increase in 5 pitch caravan sites down here this year - we are close to Weymouth where the Olympic sailing is going to be held and the field is on the 'Torch' route, so I might want to cash in on that too.

It's quite a big plot with water supply, so there are lots of options.

I'd be happy to hear any other suggestions for the land.

Cheers.

I fancied a wee caravan site too but OH ruled it out :) It would provide an outlet for surplus produce too.

Richard,
It sounds as if you have fallen on your feet there.  I would definitely make the most of the olympics this year to earn a bit from it.  You can spend that time working out what you really want to do next.

Hi from Shillingstone - lucky you near Weymouth - I know someone who is renting out their house and camping in the garden during the Olympics as the financial reward is so great!!

Hi.  Welcome to the forum.  I live near to Bere Regis and have a couple of rented acres and love keeping animals and growing veg.

Earn as much as you can from the Olympics and then enjoy the "good life"

Good idea, I wish the Olympics were being held in Devon. I'd live in a pig ark for the duration ;D

Hello from Wincanton (ish) just up the road from you. I know your part of the world very well as my favourite windsurfing spots are off Weymouth and in the harbour. I did my lambing course at the Agricultural college (if you're getting sheep I can thoroughly recommend - it runs in October so you can get early experience before your own sheep lamb) and did the practical part at a farm just overlooking the Town.
