Title: any ideas?
Post by: Pasture Farm on April 06, 2012, 07:11:05 pm
A friend of ours has bought a sow with a litter of 9 piglets from market.........he thought the sow was a duroc cross   tho she's largely a white pig with the odd splodge.......the piglets however are a real mish mash      one with saddleback markings   one almost completely grey    a couple quite pink     and the others definitely tan and white marked like a saddleback only tan and not black   just wondered what she'd crossed with  ???

anything and everything  she maybe passed by a Duroc on the way to market
Duroc is brownish/red  not as ginger as a Tammie
a white pig crossed with either saddelback or Hampshire will produce a blue gray piglet if you search this site for hamlops that will give an indication what they look like
usually if they have been served with just the one boar the piglets are all similar if it has been the village bike they can be different
colour is one thing conformation is another indicator
it is all just speculation even with photos :farmer:
