Post by: grumpsgarden on April 04, 2012, 10:38:35 am
yesterday we took a lamb to the vet , we take emercancy cases from a local farmer when he has proplems we have struggled for a week with her feeding and keeping her warm we have a electric blanket we wrap them in when cold but she had to be helped to stand and struggled to feed well we gave her the time the vet said then yesterday took her to the vets there was no hope for her she was blind with some other proplems so she was put to sleep at the vets ,last night i told the farmer we lost her he was surprised we took her to vet and then said he had a nother lamb for us to take mum had no milk ,so i now have 2 lambs in my bolier room keeping warm and 9 out in the hay barn due to the weather change the last 2 lambs will go back to farmer when weaned if he wants or needs them back are job is to get them to weaning we do keep some he gave us a nice texal ewe , so just feeling down wishing there was something  we could of done more for her  :(

Easy for me to say from here, but try not to beat yourself up about it. Poor thing didn't have a chance from what you've said, and you tried everything (even *I* don't have an electric blanket  :-\ ).
And your other lambs are doing well? Try to focus on them  :bouquet:

You did everything you could and more.

It sounds like her demise was inevitable what with the blindness and other problems identified by the vet.

At the end of the day - for every creature on this planet except humans - it's still survival of the fittest.

You've got lots of good healthy lambs so you know that you are capable and competent to raise lambs.

Sounds like you did everything possible. And her little short life was made kinder and more comfortable because of you. She was with people who cared about her, she was warm and fed.

It is always sad when a little one doesn't make it. But she's ok now too, and you have more to look after - I think you're doing a great job  :-*

So sorry   :bouquet: - its always miserable loosing anything you are caring for, and the temptation is to blame yourself and think "if only I had done......"  but these things do happen, and it sounds like you did everything possible, and as another poster said - enjoy the ones you have

No one could have done more and most would have much done less.

When something like that happens I tend to go and watch the survivors playing.  Somehow the little ones help to put things back in perspective for me.
