Have you had a read of the Good Abbattoir guide at the top of the pig page, there are abbattoirs in Lincs listed which might be some help to you.
From Padge's one word answer it suggests to me she was none too impressed with her choice! but i may be wrong. Also its worth asking the people you bought the pigs from where they take theirs (thats how we found ours) and any local farmers you know.

 we turned up unanounced to all 3 that we use just to see them working imo thats the best way to see first hand prior to using them.

The one word answer suggests nothing other than the answer to the question 'have we used them'
We have used 3 abattoirs Wrights of Boston Bowmans of Skegness and Browns of Lincoln
The truth of the matter is i don't care for this part of the process in that i don't like it. What we have to remember is that its business to these people and one pig sheep cow whatever is pretty much the same as the next and whether you call yours Doris or Horace will make not one jot of difference to them. They are there to do a job as quickly and humanely as possible adhereing to strict welfare guidelines and what is acceptable to one person may not be to another it is each a matter of choice.
I detest the abattoir trip and avoid where possible as sentiment gets the better of me and i make no apology for it but we do the very best for our animals whilst they are with us that is after all what inspired us to tread this route and would not seek to be disappointed with their treatment at dispatch to have all the good work we've done undone .
So as a retort yes I do have a preference and no i do not have complaints of any of the 3 we have used.

Padge

Ouch Padge, sorry to hit a nerve there, no i don't think anyone of us likes the end part of our pig keeping experience but as you say it is a necessary evil that has to happen and the best way is to make sure you get the best job done for your animals at their end of life. Passing on your preferences helps others make informed descisions and from a personal point of view if i can stop somebody having a terrible experience at this point then i will. If you can only give one word answers thats not entirely helpful and as you saw leads to assumptions, don't take part if you don't want to divulge.
Hope you've had some delicious pork/bacon

Hi, we always take ours to Browns in Lincoln and have had no problems so far, we do not stay for the killing but we have found that the trailer to stall handling is very gentle and calm, no sticks/or probes that we have seen?
Regards Ann

sticks and probes are deemed to be cruelty to them probes are allowed with extremely difficult animals only :farmer:
