well you've seen the forecasts
any local experts want to predict whether we might see some fluffy stuff in Alloa?
please be advised i have my in laws staying so too much fluffy stuff would be a really bad thing currently!!!
-
We have been having a few flurries but nothing else so far. It is supposed to be 'disruptive' in Scotland and Northern England. I want deep snow in August!
-
;D ;D ;D (your in-laws sound like mine ;))
According to the forecast I saw it's not to hang around for long David
But it is still only April and there's not been much snow at all this year......
My wee granny used to say "N'er cast a cloot, til May is oot" ;)
-
We're forecast to get hit here in north yorkshire moors area later today and all day tomorrow, its not unusual, my cousins little girl got christened up in the hills one April and when we came out of church it was white over, great fun gettting all the cars down fron the steep bank up to the church! NOT. Its bound to snow as i'm well ahead in my greenhouse for a change! and my latest litter of piglets have never seen rain let alone snow been bone dry since they were born!

Ground's warmed up with all that sun we've had David - even if it snows it won't lie. ;D Remember the Falkirk Wheel!
-
Clackmannanshire doesn't get it bad - between the hills and the river ;D
-
it has to be bad for snow to lye at sea level :farmer:
-
Saw snow warning signs on the way to Kincardine this morning, so maybe but it will not settle....I always think that at this time of year you can get all weathers at once, so remember Easters and trips out being Hot, then cold then wet then hot....who knows ???
-
raining here in central scotland :( :farmer:
-
we had some snow this morning but just a light dusting
-
Just done the guided tour of the area, up over the hils back round through muckhart and back down the valley
the weather is distinctly worse on the back of the hills...
-
snow showers up here. quite pretty. not seen any this winter.
-
We are suppose to get quite a bit overnight
-
Yes and us, though it hasn't even started raining yet.
Been racing the weather, so got the goat byre cleaned out yesterday (rain means I can't get through the gateway to the midden with a loaded trailer and ice means I get the whole rig stuck on the steep track....), the chookyard swept this morning and the chainsawing done this afternoon, so I am actually ready for an enforced day indoors, don't say that very often :D
-
It's coming down thick and hard now ::)
-
Snowing here north aberdeenshire - small flakes - not lying yet!
who knows - might get to build an igloo yet ;D
-
i expect snowman photo's from anyone who can!!! kids want snow i not keen need to get inlaws away on wednesday!!!
-
We now have a full covering of snow (3/4 inch) - lying nicely, no wind
like a xmas card.!!!
-
freezing here, was snowing for hours whilst we were out working, came home numb, wet and v.cold. 8 days ago my kids were swimming in the north sea! iv bin very organised this spring and moved all the firewood out the way until next winter...now im freezing ...lol
-
Raining this evening in Shropshire.
-
Slush this morning - south Aberdeenshire... Ah well, it would have been too good to get away without late winter! Just as well I've still got my winter tyres on.
-
very cold here this morning, strong north winds and sleet, the sleet is not lying yet though, we do expect the snow to get heavier.
-
The rain didn't start here in Cumbria til 10pm and it hasn't been that heavy overnight - it was forecast to be torrential from mid-afternoon. So, will see what happens today - the snow was forecast to reach us this afternoon.
-
Falling and lying here this morning, though sadly, it doesn't look like it'll be enough to put the in-laws off visiting ::) ;) :D :D
-
I wish it would do anything wet here in Devon! We desparately need rain, lots of it, then sunshine, the grass has stopped growing :(
-
very cold here this morning, strong north winds and sleet, the sleet is not lying yet though, we do expect the snow to get heavier.
Lill has taken the words out of my mouth. It's doing exactly that up here on Mull :(
-
we have white fluffy stuff falling but the ground is too wet, so not sure if it will settle at all...
when the clouds part enough to see them the Ochils appear to have a good covering...
-
Well got up this morning to a good covering of snow, my poor daffs are all bent over. Ponies came in last night as it is easier for me than having to take hay onto the hil. They will go back out for the day in their winter paddock. shame as it had been all poo picked and harrowed but needs must. Feel for the young lambs.
-
I quite enjoyed my walkies in the pretty type snow.....now it can go as I have only just took my vest off for the summer!!!
-
Well after all their scaremongering forecasts ::) all we've got this morning is mizzle, drizzle & pizzle and nine degrees so no chance of any of the white stuff! Quite glad to see the rain really but don't tell OH her's supposed to be roofing tofay. Ooops.
Mandy :pig:
mostly moist north yorks
-
Here in southern Scotland there's spikey snow coming in on a horizontal wind but only settling in odd corners. No-one's lambing into it yet but forecast to carry on into tonight - hope they keep their legs crossed a bit longer ;D
-
The BBC said that the UK is more likeley to get snow at Easter than at Xmas. Not sure how other religous holidays stack up but I was surprised by that fact.
Sympathy to all of you in the north who have it bad - bit of a blow after the taste of spring especially if you started gardening or have young animals.
-
& just when I got my garden chairs out too!!
-
We probably had about 5 inches but It's been drifting so it's over a foot deep in places. I've had to put the hen with chicks in one of the spare houses as they can't walk through this stuff ::)
-
& just when I got my garden chairs out too!!
AND your vest off - think you were teeny bit previous, Sandy ;D ;D ;D ;D No more snow here but it is blooming cold. Got the stove on so nice and toasty. ;D
-
Rain turned to snow here now and getting very windy.
I hope his mum has taken her lamb into the barn - will to and check.
-
Well still blustery snowshowers every 5 minutes here, it's bl**dy cold, wind straight North-east - the one open side of my hay/lambing shed.... Had to put some tarpaulin over the top of the lambing pens (only two lambed so far, but one lot of triplets one set of twins), the snow is blowing right in...
Managed to get the ones due in the next few days into the shed, just in case... so far none of them lambed today...
Got a roaring fire going too...
-
Just had our humungosieroat heating bill and today had to put it on again as we have a load of night shifters in and its freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezin, mind you its warmed up now and I have not had the internet, some local problem...suns out but still cold (glad I didn't shave my legs after all) jumper and vest are staying put!!
-
Well its lovely and sunny in mid Wales. I'm not religous but I am praying for deep snow betweem Liverpool and me otherwise the mother in law will be here. ::)
-
Heavy rain this morning turning to sleaty snow by this afternoon and a high of 2.
Icy wind and sleaty showers tonight. Tucked up in front of log burner now ;D
-
Freezing winds and horiziontal wet snow coating all surfaces since 7pm last night, intermittent electricity loss (grr had to decide if needed generator getting out to keep heat on for piglets! decided they looked snug enough in a big straw nest next to mum), sunshine now in between squalling sleet showers, bloody cold.
Road between Pickering and Whitby is shut on the moor top, all local roads are flooded in parts and icy in others. Yuk.
Mandy :pig:
-
Just been out to the hoggs - knee high drifts on the leeside of the banks, high winds still and very cold, but it's stopped snowing for now and is brightening up.
-
Suns out but chilly...I must say for anyone living near the Ochil Hills, they do look stunning covered in snow with the sun blazing on them, any photos make them look like hills but in reality they are awesome, especially as you que in Tesco and can see them looming!!
-
Brilliant - views.
I've just been admiring them from my lounge window. Admire is all I can do though - used to climb Munro's with John (a LOT higher than the Ochils!) but not allowed to do anything like that now.
Glad no white stuff on the ground but might put the stove on again today as it is so cold out. Dogs didn't mind it though, hunted around as usual.
-
I would never go up anything higher than Clackmanan Tower Hill and being unfit and creaky is the best excuse but I hate hights.....would love a photo of them but they NEVER look good like they do when you see them!!!.
-
Been snowing here in Mid Wales since 5am .... still coming thick and fast. Blizzard like and the wind is bitter.
Children are out sledging and building a snowman. Cant believe we were in t stirts and eating al fresco last week!
Sheep ... keep everything crossed for another day or two.
-
Had a shower of hail here in South Devon this morning.
-
Snowing here, harsh sleety stuff
Sheba the dog is disappointed we can't make snowballs with it, its too slushy!
Electric been off til about 20 minutes ago, ice breaking the wires apparently...
-
Oh, I'm glad you've got your electricity back.
I got out the candles etc. last night, especially with the high winds too, but not only did the electricity stay on, so did the Internet (whispering in case it hears and goes off.......
-
Had to wrap the incubator up in blankets!
Dare I admit ... we have a generator ... but no oil or petrol for it ::) ir any money to get some (or enough left to syphon it out of the car!!)
-
will it ever stop? As for in the hills, its been snowing now since 10 pm last night and is still blizzard. We built and igloo this morning!!!
-
Oh no, FiB! Dont know where you are but hope it stops for you soon.
Still going here Im afraid.
-
Great to hear that some people tell us where they live before we get a weather update. Its not snowing here though ?!?!?!
also i had to google Ochils. They have a Mountaineering club and they are in Scotland near Stirling - but they do not give an altitude either. Is it snowing at sea level or 100 feet up?
Hope it warms up soon for everyone and we can crack on with spring planting.
-
We are bala, North Wales and have got off really lightly all winter!! Payback time today!. Chickens didnt go out all day, Children didnt come in all day and sheep milled around looking miserable! I tried to entice them in to the barn full of hay, but no, they seemed to enjoy looking the martr!
-
Great igloo
Mortimer my castlemilk moorit ram would love it... ;D
-
But would it love Mortimer :D
Good igloo

re the ochils Ben cleuch is 721 meters high :farmer:
-
Just a few clicks north of the west end of the M4 @ 117 mtr above sea level ..
Several hours of fine hard driven sleet .. just taking the dog to his loo in the garden has chilled me to the bone despite my being well wrapped up .
I lit a big four inch candle 9 hous warming pressy seven years ago ) in the glasshouse again this evening to try and keep the temp above 45 oF .... it worked lat night ,so fingers crosed it will do the same tonight .
-
I hope the cold and all that rain does is not set back for the growers.
Great to get an idea about the areas you mention - I keep using relief maps to get an idea of the altitudes etc - A level geography over 30 years ago has a lot to answer for.
Our forecasts keep changing - basically they have no idea - we should have had storms after the hot bout but not so much as a morning dew. I cut the grass before the expected rain and the sun has dried it already. Send seeweed as an official weather forecast seems a waste of time here ( Limousin, 500 meters ) ;D
-
Here at 1000' in southern Scotland the blizzards have gone and we have brilliant sunshine. It was minus 5 last night (minus 4 in the greenhouse, inside the polytunnel but my lettuce seedlings survived). Yesterday the wind was viciously cold but today it has dropped enough to be ok. There are still little pockets of snow and the hills all around are all white, but mostly green and dry here.
My ewes are all sunbatheing today 8)

Saw plenty of the white stuff on our way to Millers of Speyside with the pigs. and its still very cold.
