the brewers grain idea hasnt worked yet as we havent found a supplier who hasnt got farmers lined up already so we are gona try the tatties route.
i can buy it by the ton, and am hoping to replace half the sow rolls with tatties for the 5 adult breeders.
questions - is how many "medium" tatties would replace one meal? and how long would a ton last 5 adults?
thanks

have you tried the MICRO brewerys thats your only chance... google micro brewerys in your county i did and i now get my grain from less than 10 mile away.... on my second batch of 10 large bags.... looking for a supply of hubbard birds to help clear up spillage .... my layers are looking to fat now.

4lb potatoes = 1lb nuts

Don't overdo raw tatties, pigs actually find them quite hard to digest and convert into useful feed.
They'll need to be well shredded and don't feed sprouted or green ones.

im hoping to get an cheap 2nd hand oven to keep in the hatchery room and bake/half bake them. i have heat lamps on half the time (which cost a fortune in electric) so extra heat source would be an advantage too.
depends how many i need to feed really as to whether it is practical/financiall worthwhile.

PP when we fed potatoes we did not cook them at all or shread them, we did cut down a little on the hard feed though, don't feed sprouted or green potatoes.

Our saddlebacks are currently preparing the veg plot for planting. They have found quite a few leftover spuds from last year and have scoffed the lot.
