I am thinking about buying a set of chain harrows for my quad - does anyone have any views or recommend any particular type/method.
I can borrow a tractor to do it, but it is awkward to manouvere in a narrow strip, especially around large trees?
Do you need to add weight to the chains?
Thanks

the man we bought this place off used to harrow with a rusty gate behind his quad! Said it worked fine!

I've got a set you could have bought, used to do about half an acre behind my quad, worked fine but got a tractor now and sold the quad, mine came with weights on are about 6x4 I'm a bit far south for you tho' other side of Carlisle

i used to harrow 10 acres once a month with a quad and a weight on the back just for mole hills be careful not to go to fast with no weight on i ended up going to fast and the harrow went straight over the top of my head just missing me :o

TobyToby I sent you a PM re this, did you get it ok ?

Toby
I've just done 5 acres with an old chain harrow about 7' square on the back of the Land Rover. Takes a couple of hours and you can't go too fast but it seems to work ok. The trick seems to be getting the soil moisture level just right - too wet and you get really stuck! Too dry and it is a waste of time. Needless to say the farmers think it is a hoot watching me.
