There are some unusual user names on here, some pretty obvious and others less so. It makes me wonder how the users chose their names.
Care to enlighten us?
I will go first.
Bionic is part of my email address. The name was given to me after I had a serious car accident in 1985 and ended up with metal plates in my legs.
Sally
-
Mine is easy peasy - DOG is obvious ;D ;D ;D - AN is the first half of Anne, and JO is the first half of my late husband's name John.
-
Rosemary's my name and I don't have much imagination ;D
-
I was assimilated into the collie collective, resistance was futile ;D
-
Sandy my porn name ;D ;D no, just a nick name and my great grand dads name!!!! I do have an imagination but cannot always be bothered to use it!!!
-
Henchard as in the Mayor of Casterbridge (Dorchester) by Thomas Hardy
I used to live in Dorset and Henchard's fortunes went rapidly downhill in the novel.
So just my weird sense of humour!
-
Plumseverywhere - well when we bought our house we were excited to see an orchard with 70 fruit tree's. We were kind of hoping they were mixed fruit but by July of that year we realised they were all plums ::) having never bought a plum in my life, just not a fruit we chose to buy, I was a tiddly bit hacked off but...then...hubby found out how to make plum wine. We've not looked back since ;)
-
My cousin used to call me suziequeue when I was a kid. My proper name is Susanna.
I like suziequeue and tend to use it for forums in general if I can.
-
I spend a lot more time with fleece than I do with housewifery so - fleecewife :sheep:
-
Fleecewife with the three legged ram ;D
(I know he has got four legs!!)
-
It was suggested by a gun dog trainer that I lived in a Walt Disney World because of how I liked all my dogs and animals to get on together and I suppose I thought it summed me up well although I dont think when she said it she meant it as a compliment!
-
I'm not gifted with an imagination either :)
-
Suppose I`m a bit like Rosemary (only male ) no imagination, its the first parts of my name.
-
Er, no particlar reason! ;D
-
Because I am and its incredibly witty ::)
-
I use the name of my animals on websites as my user name .....Roxy is actually one of my ponies ......but if you meet me in real life I will answer to Roxy :D
Some years ago I joined a pony forum, and we all met up at the next breed show. I could see other people at the show looking a bit confused as we all greeted each other with names that were obiously not human names .....and even to this day we still refer to each other by our forum names :D
-
Because I am and its incredibly witty ::)
;D :D
I wish I'd chosen something else. :(
-
Fleecewife with the three legged ram ;D
(I know he has got four legs!!)
Three legs but four horns :D :D That pic was taken ages ago and the old boy really is on his last legs now :sheep:
Oh no now I'll have to change my picture :D
-
I live on TAS and
I've got a bottom I'm a robot sheep.
-
Brucklay is the name of the estate we live on and the name I chose for our goat and sheep registration names so it seemed appropriate - so not smart or funny but I can also see me answering to it
It was suggested by a gun dog trainer that I lived in a Walt Disney World because of how I liked all my dogs and animals to get on together and I suppose I thought it summed me up well although I dont think when she said it she meant it as a compliment!
I'd love that too - but always seem to have an issue or two
-

I always wondered about yours! thanks for the enlightenment!

Mines an old nickname, from the Beautiful South song (of the same name!) from the album Blue is the Colour
And rhymes with my shortened first name Ru (Roo) - my dad hates anyone calling me Ruthie, and so it got shortened by the family
And blue is my favourite colour
:)
-
Mine is named after OH and No1 horse! ;D :horse: :bouquet:
-
We found a kitten in our forest 2 years ago and OH called him Woody
but, Chitty Chitty Bangbang was on tv - so I used to call him kitty kitty bangbang.
It got shortened to bangbang, then - BeeBee - so I stole the cats name BANGBANG !!!
-
well, the ladies always say i look like johnny depp, so mine was going to be deppinthewoods, cos i live in the woods ::)
.
but i spelt it wrong and it ended up deepinthewoods instead!
honest.
-

Great album, great song!
-
aw, cheers Dan ... normally nobody knows what I'm talking about!
I use variations on the blue theme on different sites, email etc too
:)
-
My OH is in love with Johnny Depp !!
I told her of your post (deepinthewoods) and she's just left for the bus stop.
Quiet night for me!!
-
have a day off bangbang ;) ;D
-
1st part me 2nd part my OH
-
no imagination here Daisy is my Jack Russell
-
I live in Madeley, I keep goats and as for Mad, ask anyone who knows me. ;D Oh and I'm a woman.
-
I am big over 6ft tall and I keep chickens, simpels darlings
-
I was wearing a pair at the time I joined.
-
I was given this username when I got my first proper computer account (on a group of Sun workstations during my PhD). The pattern they used was first name + initial of surname but the postdoc setting up the accounts thought I wouldn't want to be 'bent' so stuck in my middle initial aswell. I've used it on pretty much every system since.
-
I live in the pennines, on a hill, and the place is, well, a little untidy, (made so by OH of course) ::)
-

Of course.
-
I took a chicken to the vets. They didn't see many chickens and referred to me as The Chicken Lady! I ended up having the chicken put to sleep! Expensive lesson! :'(
-
Not much imagination here, I'm afraid. Only in so far as, as an emigree from "the south", I think it's funny to say "t'North". ::)
I don't use my real name on all sites, so your question made me think about when I do and when I don't. Mostly I think it's about the feel of the site - if it's clearly full of real people interacting in a real and genuine way then I probably use Sally. But I'm not Sally on some real genuine sites, so I think it must be pretty much random and how I was feeling when I registered!
I have to keep a list of usernames and stuff - I give myself cryptic clues to the passwords and live in fear that I will lose the keys to my own clues! :o
-
My name is Russ but very often get called rusty , so as thats me , rustyme . I get called other names to , but a*sehole or f'in tw*t don't have the same ring to them , although they may be just as apt !
-
bazzais :)
ie bazza is @ hotmail.com
its a bit of a bummer having a unique username as when I search for it on google it comes up with all my strange life and posts on random forums over the decade and further back.
-
its my surname I have answered to it most of my life
did work well when i started the business though
Bloomer's Garden Services
makes up for all the years of grief I got for it!!!
-
Well it's a nick name that I have had since infant school. Everyone knows me as Bert even my Nan & Grandad. Mainly because most people don't know my real name.
-
Feldar is the name of my pony, no imagination for me because half the time i can't remember my passwords!
Our work's computor requires us to change passwords every 6 months and that sends me into a flat spin
-
Not very imaginative its where i live and mainly use it so people remember my herd name when they're looking for piggies!
Mandy :pig:
-
Tizaala,
Well , he's one of our Arabian Stallions, I'm actualy Doug and the missus is Gabriele so we both post under " Tizaala " Gabi being from Munich gives most of our pets Spanish names ! because she is a translator for English /Spanish/German. but Tizaala was a combination of his parents names.
-
tizaala (the horse) is a beauty
How did a family with a penchant for Spanish names end up with a Castlemilk Moorit tup called Colin? ??? :D
-
Colin was already named when we got him and he responds when you call it out, we have tryed " you orrible bastard " but he just ignores us.
-
So what's the Spanish for "you 'orrible ba$t4rd"?
-
I am a proud, opinionated, quirky gal from the good old U. S. of A.
When I have a question I tell my hubby and friends that I have to check with my "peeps across the ocean"!
-
My name is actually Brigit but when my OH is on creep mode it gets turned into Brijjy. My sister also calls me this, she thinks it annoys me.
-
My sister also calls me this, she thinks it annoys me.
;D
-
It was our car at time of registering, changed for 2 Landrovers now !
-
Yep, plain and simple, my name is Alice and my farming life is technically wonderland... as in fictional... However, i will definitely, definitely make it one day. Also when I introduce myself to people they always think that it's Alex or Alison and so I have to clarify with "you know, in wonderland?!"
-
But Alice, when you introduce yourself you should start singing "Living next door to Alice " see if they can resist joining in the naughty chorus.
-
Mine's boring, just my initials (Judith Karen) and I use it everywhere. Anyway I am known as Jay by assorted groups of friends - started in primary school as there were two Judith's. She was Judy and I was Jay - which suited me fine, I was always cooler ;)
-
just my initials (Judith Karen) and I use it everywhere
:'(
I had always secretly hoped that you might be JK out of Jamiroquai
-
Mine's the second half of my full first name; I've often been called by it - at home, only by the male members of the family, at school by some, but not all - and these days again by some... At work, they often get to know me with my full name first, and that tends to stick, if I don't make an effort.
And it's pronounced "Eena", btw, not "Eye-na"...
(It's difficult enough to remember pass words, never mind user names that aren't my own! ;D )
-
Skirza is where we live...really imaginative ;D
-
I had always secretly hoped that you might be JK out of Jamiroquai
:D sorry to disappoint :D

Ach, she's way cooler! ;) :-*
-

I didn't know it had a naughty chorus. ???
I wanted to call my second child if I had a girl but the father wouldn't agree because he'd been scared of the illustrations in the book.

I guess the big limousine pulling in and out of the drive has alternative interpretations ;)
-
I guess the big limousine pulling in and out of the drive has alternative interpretations ;)
I'm very innocent.
-
:-*
-
Mine's a childhood nickname.
Actually I was going to use Susieq because that was my log-in at work at one time and was one of the few that I always remembered. However, someone got there before me........................... :)
-
i like all your thinking behind your handles i just used my own name no point in hidding behind a cloak of anonymity :farmer:
-
I disagree Robert. It's just fun.
You can find almost everyones real name who post anyway
If you wanted to.
-
We were working in the Sudanese Red Sea (as scuba diving guides) and my motorbike was (actually still is) a Pan European so when I had to come up with a username (for Ebay as it happens) Sudanpan sort of made sense.
That was 10 years ago but I liked it so tend to use it for most of the sites for which I need a username.
-
:chook: :chook: :chook: because i finally do :chook: :chook: :chook:
;D
-
A horse i once owned
-
Not very imaginative but all I could think of when I registered, your mind goes blank at the time and ever since have thought of plenty of alternative more imaginative ones. We had just taken delivery of our first pigs to add to our smallholding and I was feeling mighty proud of them so thought what goes with piggy and of course Miss sprung to mind. OH often says I should have been Mrs Piggy. :pig: :pig: :pig:
-
I'll let you guess!
I use my real name on the one other forum to which I contribute but that one is used by people who seem to take themselves pretty seriously so is exceedingly PC and boring. But I'm not sure that it is so easy to identify that many TAS participants, bangbang?
In the world of jobs and networking employers routinely search the web to dig for dirt on people. Incautious and outrageous remarks stay on the web for ever apparently so there's every reason not to make busybodies lives any easier.
Entertaining chat about ones neighbours wouldn't happen if there was the remotest chance that they'd find out. Maybe that's a south of England thing but we try to be on good terms with the tight-fisted pig-ignorant environmentally unaware flash gits next door.
-
Mines boring too!
Leggy was the noisiest Cockerel we ever had apt he was a Leg-Horn! I gave him away to a farmer of the Ashridge estate ;D
-
I was called Louisey Squeasy Japanesey as an affectionated nickname as a child.
Two of my uncles indeed still refer to me as squeeze. I set up a business so Squeasy was the obvious choice.
-
Polished Arrow... Well, the first time I went on a forum I had just listened to a man describing how an arrow was made. The talk inspired me for life itself.
I've used that as my name on forums (fora?) ever since.
-
The new place didn't come with a name, and since all the various animals started arriving one (or two,or three) after the other, I thought it was becoming a bit like Noah's Ark-so thought what I could do with that. Sharnoak is the result! Thankfully I also have a sizeable oak tree next to the house too. :D
-
love it.

I could supply the owl and the pussy cat ;D
-
I could supply the owl and the pussy cat ;D
Ah, pussy cat! Need me one of those-I have a couple of pesky mice in the kitchen, and the briards totally ignore them ;D
-
I live between two towns and there was an old unit of measure used in the two towns way back when... Hexham always used to call a hexham measure as one more than a bakers dozen as they were kind and gentle folk.. Corbridge always used to refer to the hexham measure as being one short of a bakers dozen as the hexham folk were vagabonds and thieves
I leave you to decide which one I lean towards
-
Well I have a Clydesdale and we always used to call riding clopping. I guess I should change it really as I haven't been able to ride for the past 5 years :(
-
Sabrina my horse is the other love of my life and it sounds much nicer than boring old Margaret ;D
-
As above, Remy is my Hungarian Lipizzaner that I imported when the stud owner got a brain tumour and wanted to sell off his stock before he died and they got into the hands of gypsies! Ever a sucker for a sad story, myself and four others imported some and Remy was the only bay horse (I didn't want a grey). I backed her myself - she is beautiful, a complete nutcase and hugely talented; she has the most amazing floating paces :o. Sadly as I get older there is a limit to how many times I hit the deck and I am presently wondering what to do with her!
-
SABRINA....... I think she was the Roman goddess of the river Severn. As well as the singer with the nice knockers on the Arther Askey show in my youth.
-
Hermit.... I like to be on my own, do my own thing and like nothing more that being in the peace and quiet of my own croft. I only leave once a week at most and that suits me fine. I much prefer the company of my stock to human company.
-

My OH tells me that 'Sabrinas' were fitted onto the front of Hunter aircraft to catch spent amunition cases - they looked like a big double bump....
Sorry Sabrina - it's a beautiful horse :horse: :)

This I can identify with, unfortunately we have a bridleway coming past the house, I sometimes stay out of sight even if I know the person walking passed, how unsociable of me ;D
However I was quite happy to sit on a lump of wood and chat to the goats this afternoon :):goat:
-
Plantoid.. I've been into gardening small holding and a bit of farming for over 45 years on my own account so the plant thing is a given but the " oid " bit is a genetic modification .
Or so I thought
Till I recalled the name to my big bro ( aged 71 0 who told me that in the 1950's & 1960's you could buy a pack slow release PNK in tablet form called Plantoids , you simply pushed one og the pink tablets down along the hole where you'd transplanted or along side emerging stuff .. they were supposedly good for flowers and veg...
I then sketched out for him a packet design that came to mind and he said the sketch was very similar to it ... evidently our parents used to use the Plantoids to try and get better crops off their small holding but the slugs & bug took advantage of the lush greens every sodding time.
-
Lill short for Lillian. Robert Waddell's better half ;D ;D
-
Our name seemed simple and obvious to remember at the time. ( and I thought OH would post more than he has, so I needed something simple!) We were very new to it all when we started, in Norfolk. However name does not make sense now that a) we have moved to Midlands and b) we are slightly less new to it all. I could start again, but my imagination/inventiveness seems to be non existant when faced with generating user names and passwords.....(writers block).
-
we bought the smallholding when my mother moved in with us and her name is Elissa. without her we wouldn't be in this beautiful place. Though it does take a huge amount of tolerance on all sides and sometimes we'd all like to kill each other!
-
Mine's quite obvious really. My name is Mary, and I now live right on the Pays de la Loire/ Normandy border, and funnily enough, Pays de la Loire Mary is a bit of a mouthful!!
-
If mine aint obvious.......
-
I got it , you have an ant farm in Stevenage.........
-

so the car is the taz, and i am his babe.......
i love my car!
-
Hello :)
I'm SquinkyMcG because when I think lots I screw my face up in a ball and look 'squinky' and I'm a McG x
-
Arl
first three letters of my name, very ingenious
-
what a lovely thread, folks
I joined TAS just when our first duckling was born (and so far the only ever surviving homegrown duck) , so not much imagination here. I still sign with a :&> but also have chickens now ;D
-
Littlelugs is a nickname my OH gave me when we met as i apparentley have little ears, as we are both originally from up north. and it stuck with the rugby club i was playing for. we have a beagle cross dog called lugs so when i am out with her i get "oh its littlelugs n la'l lugs" :-[
-
I am 'one' not 'the' but I think I'm the only one on here, so am 'the' not just 'a'.
-
It's part of my surname! (and a very good name for a border collie :-) )
-
No imagination, because Engineers are like that. Avatar is Claude. There are similarities.
-
No imagination, because Engineers are like that. Avatar is Claude. There are similarities.
Is Claude an engineer too then? :D
-
I'm another one without imagination - mab is just my initials (Marcus) - and I'm lazy if I need to type it in, three letters is easier.
-
what a great thread ;D ;D
Mine came about as when i met OH the firm he worked for had a company to which they contracted overall cleaning..........despite his surname they came back with EVERYTHING but his surname on.......one of which was Padgett.....I've called him Padge......amongst other things :-[ ....eversince ;D
-
I'm always freezing..and I look like the last chicken in Sainsburys..oh, and I love geese..
-
Well Eck is a sort of Scottish version of my real name ( Alexander) and Wee Eck was a character in a well known Scottish Sunday Newspaper (P ost) cartoon ...Oor Wullie.
I'm with Rosemary.....not much imagination
-

Wonder if there's a Fat Boab out there. We have an Oor Wullie somewhere too
-
i really struggled with ours :roflanim: :roflanim: :roflanim:
-
Our smallholding is called Caegrug which is welsh for Heather's field. No prizes for guessing my wifes' name
-
Mine is from a combination of Bee - coz I kept them & Wych from the type of elm trees growing down the woods on the Scottish holding we lived on when I 1st joined TAS
Not to be confused with the woman with the black cat who wriggled her nose ;)
-
Moregin was our KC affix although I never bred any dogs. I bought it as a joke with my ex-wife who had a bit of a reputation in my family for being overly fond of mothers ruin. We used to joke that if we wanted to have more dogs then first we needed more gin!!!!!
I have a German Shorthaired Pointer at home who came from a bitch registered with the name 'Gin and it' so the breeder knowing we would stick Moregin on his registration decided to get creative and called him something in keeping. (Magregor Pyzartyst with Moregin)
Stu
-
Mines not very inventive really, my name is Clare but my Mum has always called me Belle so Clarebelle :)
-
ZaktheLad is my horses name - not much imagination from me either. I am actually called Emily.
-
Well, mines simply where I live. It's very useful to have an idea of the area where a fellow forumer lives (is that a real word and does in need double M;-)? ) so, with tumble-weed blowing through my imagination, SouthernSkye I be.
-
The first letters of my our names. Our being me, my oh , our children
-
Interesting thread and made me think - most forum membership I've had has been about horses and I just use my stud name Kirkcarrion, or about work for which I've had a variety of job or business related ID's. On one forum I was/am OldBag which is quite apt for me or the pony I was referring to when I made it up ;D but I don't like that forum "atmosphere" and hardly ever post or visit it now so didn't want to recreate that ID in case it came with a similar experience :-\
I would have been Hermit but it was taken ::) and in a way that was reassuring that there are people who get the life choices I've made since most don't. Couldn't think of anything else when I joined other than the name of my smallholding but at the time I wanted to move and tho I don't now it felt a bit inappropriate.
So I just used my name and I think it's the only forum where I have but it makes sense as TAS covers pretty much everything I am and have worked towards all my life. It includes the stud which is most of my past 25 years "life work" that the past day jobs all supported, but is more than that - the feeble but well intentioned gardener, apprentice crafter, enthusiastic but relatively inexperienced chicken keeper, passionate country dweller/nature lover and pathetic wannabe baking/freezing/preserving kitchen goddess aspiring to self sufficiency and income generating superwoman - yeah right! I reckon it would also cover the writer part tho there isn't a specific link, I do have another forum for that under a former business ID tho ;) Tho even if I did achieve almost self sufficiency and offgrid, I'd still need decent ground coffee so I am happy with my imperfect goals and the unlikelihood of getting even close now!
