Title: quarter horse
Post by: mcginty on March 14, 2012, 08:49:36 pm
I have been offered a four year old quarter horse mare. 15h.
Has anyone any experience of this breed.
As i would like to use her to breed a paint or appaloosa.

We had a half-bred quarter horse when I was a girl. She was a dear. Very placid and kind, if there were small children around her she would look down before she moved her feet. More  than that I can't tell you :horse:

I have 2 American Paint Horses at the moment, although I have had 3 Quarter Horses prior to this - they lived all their lives with me.  The Paint horses are basically Quarter Horses with colour.

They are a fantastic breed - kind, gentle and very intelligent.  My horses are all ridden Western and I have never had a back or leg problem, I'm not sure where that comes from???? ???

Make sure she comes from good stock, there are not many good Stallions in the UK so they tend to get heavily used.  Check also that her feet aren't very small - some breeders like them like this but you may breed something that will pay for that later on!

They also mature quite late, so please don't breed from her too young.

Good luck!
