Title: Any funding for school gardens in Scotland?
Post by: Rosemary on March 13, 2012, 11:36:39 am
I've just been up to our local secondary school to help the SFL department plant some potatoes - it's part of RHET / Angus Countryside Initiative Angus Potato project.

They have a bit of "garden" outside the department that's frankly a disgrace and such a wasted opportunity to get kids growing food. What it needs is some hard labour really, but I wondered if anyone knew of any funding available for school garden projects in Scotland.

BTW, we got the potatoes planted in pots (taking care not to damage the 12" long chits (yes, twelve inches) and I'm going back in a fortnight to plant some peas, beans, acrrots and salad leaves. Well, the kids are planting - I'm supervising, which is what I do best (thought I'd say it before Dan did  ;D).

Have you tried Garden Organic?  They have a schools programme where they give a lot of help - free seeds, etc - to encourage schools to have gardens and grow organically.  www.gardenorganic.org.uk (http://www.gardenorganic.org.uk)
