Very excited ;D ;D We go to collect our tamworth x large white weaners tomorrow :pig: :pig: :pig:
This will be our first experience of 'pricky ears' pigs - it will be interesting to see if they are any more exploratory than the GOS or GOS x OSB pigs we have had for the last couple of years ;)

Well, they'll be able to see where they're going if/when they make a break for freedom :D :D :D
The prick eared breeds definately seem more alert than the lop ones, but it could just be appearances being deceptive ;) Our Berkshire & Tamworth are always first at the trough - they see you coming rather than hear you.
Good luck with them, keep us posted

in the pig world if your not first you are last ;D the lop eared pigs when they get a bit of speed up there ears go back then watch them disappear :o :farmer:

how exciting, what colour are they?

Excellent, we get ours on Friday (I think), can't wait to have pigs around the place again. :pig: :pig:

How much is a GOS weaner or a cross of any sort?
Our neighbour can get us 2 weaners ( ? sort) after he shoots the 2 cul noir we have.
Since he charged me a 1000 Eurios for logs ( rather a lot of logs) I need to get a feel for the cost of weaners.

France will be different to Britain and there is a big drop in sow weaner and guilt numbers in Europe some by as much as 20% :farmer:

id expect to pay £45 each for a quality xbred up to £70 for a reg pedigree.
-
Yep i think we are in a down cycle of number of pigs at market. A good sow for the butcher goes for 200 Euros. Bit different to the market price in the UK discussed here recently.
thanks for the heads up re costs - it is difficult to compare market trends but I will go for 40 Euros for a good X breed.

Well the 3 girls have arrived ;D ;D ;D
They were born on 27th Nov 2011 so about 13 weeks old.
We picked them up in our Ifor Williams trailer - good as gold, and once loaded in the trailer they got jabs for worms for good measure from the breeder!
They are now in their new paddock - they've found the ark, explored the area and 'tested' the white electric tape....!
Although they are tamworth x large white one of them seems to have vaguely OSB type spots, and another a load of tiny spots - the third mostly ginger tamworth like is also the boss! ;D
They cost £40 each - which is pretty good considering they've been fed for a month extra - generally cross breeds meat weaners seem to be between £35 and £50.

ahh, they look good and stocky, love the white on the face. have fun!
