Title: Wish Us Luck
Post by: sabrina on February 25, 2012, 09:53:53 am
After months of talking about it we are off this morning shopping for a new bed. Sick of waking up in the morning full of sore bits. OH should be fencing but i have put this at the top of my list so he will just have to come along  :)

Good luck - I'm so jealous!   Our  :cat: had a little accident on our mattress a couple of months ago, so we had to sleep on the floor for a week until it had all dried out  >:(.  However, I suddenly found that I was sleeping much better on the floor, didn't wake up feeling like a banana, and my persistent headaches had all gone (bless that cat - she did me such a favour in the end!).

Unfortunately, we can't afford a new mattress for another couple of months, so I'm still sleeping on the floor, whilst Mrs Womble is back in the bed, sleeping like a starfish!  She says she's never slept better, without me tossing and turning all night!  ::)

So good luck with your search Sabrina, and sweet dreams!  ;D

I can highly recommend Sleepshaper mattresses (came out as best buy on Which for memory foam mattresses - compared to much more expensive ones).

http://www.discountmattresscentre.co.uk/sleepshaper/mattresses/original-20-with-outlast-temperature-control (http://www.discountmattresscentre.co.uk/sleepshaper/mattresses/original-20-with-outlast-temperature-control)

Shop around on internet as can't remember who we found to be cheapest and it might not have been this crowd. We bought the Original 25 then also the cheaper roll up ones for the spare rooms and they are almost as good (and much more comfortable than other foam mattresses we have in spare rooms which don't have the softer foam on top). Our previous mattress was a £2000 Vi-Spring (bought in a sale for less than that, I have to add......obviously when we had that kind of money to spend.)  Neck and shoulder problems from sleeping on my side much better (plus don't have to do further damage turning over mattress every few weeks which was a 2-man job)

Do you also have a large enough bed?  When we were in a king size I would find husband kept creeping over and I would end up sleeping on the edge of the bed. Add in the patter of tiny feet at 3am in the morning and there was no chance of being either comfortable or sleeping through. We now have a superking size bed (with 2 single mattresses, easy to move) and don't even notice dtr has crept into bed with 10 furry friends.

And there is room for the cat as well who sleeps on the edge under the duvet to avoid getting squashed.

We found Ikea matters to be good value for money too, we used to sleep on the floor and enjoyed it but its hard to get up!!

Wow, great thread and timely. We need to do something about ours - the mattress is shocking and I don't think the bed is big enough (although even in a HUGE bed, Felix would still sleep on top of me  :cat:

We used to have a waterbed and I loved it - slept well and found it very comfy but OH wasn't as keen - now have decent mattress with memory foam top and it good enough for us both - getting a new one is not as easy as it seams - good luck with your shopping

NM, it's a strange thing about getting up - the older you get, the further up is, so it's a lot harder getting there.

David, as a temporary measure get a piece of board and put it under your mattress.  You'll be amazed at teh difference it makes, and you may even save having to buy a new bed.

I like my memory foam mattress too, but I do sometimes wake up because I've got very hot. ::)

Well in the end we bought a new mattress as the base of our bed is like new. Takes about 4 weeks from order date. What happened to going to a shop, buying and getting delivered in a few days. We have bought a Sealy Diamond Latex Kingsize after spending ages in the shop trying all the beds. In the past we did have a water bed but as my back became more of a problem I found it  too difficult getting out of it. I also have problems overheating which is a side effect of the tamoxifin drug i am on. I long for a good nights sleep so hope this new mattress will help.  ;D

At least you tried them out.  I had friends who bought a mattress without trying it and the wife couldn't sleep because she was so uncomfortable.

I wish they made beds that when they detect a rise in temp a fan cools you, well just the area thats hot...I always find when I get hot my hubby gets closer  ::) ::)

Anyway, my ex wanted his then girlfriend to stay but she refused to sleep in his old double bed, so, he bought an expensive king size bed and mattress and put it in a small room so you could hardly move around it, and she still never stayed, they broke up now and he has another girlfriend......

Our bed is very comfy...I doubt I would get out of a water bed either, I slept on the camp bed for the first 2 weeks of o ur pups life and I found my arms got so bruised trying to push myself out of it!!!!

Each to our own......heres to a wonderful nights sleep and a non stiff getting up in the morning!

If it's too comfy you won't want to get out of it in the morning.
