no "magazine" in my title - and I had no idea what you are talking about. Not in the "circle of trust" as the Fokkers would say.

Do you know, when I twigged who you and your hubby were ( a few months back) I felt like I was mixing with royalty!! I've learnt so much from those guides, they are brilliant!!

will be reading my copy tonight and look forward to seeing you all!

Not in the "circle of trust" as the Fokkers would say.

Loved the first two films, they should have stopped then.

If there is such a thing here I'd say you're in it as much as anyone.

Many thanks to Rosemary for putting the article together! It's a great advert for Scotland. (Maybe we'd better get passport control at Gretna!)

Sorry MAK :-* Should have put "magazine" in the title.

Anke has an article in CS magazine this month on goats; I've got one about smallholding in Scotland, which features Crofter and Andrew. And Tim Tyne, VSS's OH, has an article on tailing and castrating  ;D

Well I really enjoyed reading my copy last night!! SO nice to put faces to names and keep elbowing hubby to say " I know her..." "and him" and "ooh look, that's Anke...she's helped with my goats soooo many times....". In the end he did say to be quiet  ;)
well done all of you - really fantastic read!

You know you're a smallholder when...

you'd rather meet Tim Tyne that Gary Barlow  ;D

There were several monthly magazines in this area I recall but we stopped taking any of them a couple of years ago because at least one of them always had dire content and the rest were rather uneven.

When something you're interested in is flagged on the cover and then turns out to be badly written with factual errors or just sketchy coverage you do feel a bit cheated.  We got the feeling that the editors were a bit desperate for content and would take anything submitted but didn't themselves have the knowledge to sub-edit the articles into shape.

Some contributors have masses of experience but can't write, others can write but have nothing to say and then there's the Tim Tynes who manage to be engaging and knowledgeable

It sounds like we should look again.

Oh dear, hope we don't fall into either category. It's actually quite difficult - I'm sure the editors would welcome submissions from well informed, well researched, literate smallholders  :)

I did say it was a couple of years ago!

I suspect the vastly increased interest in the subject now gives editors rather more choice.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound as tetchy as it did  :)

I subscribe to CS and Smallholder and buy HF sometimes too. Plus Scottish Farmer every Friday - mostly I have no idea what the articles are about but I like to look at the adverts and the sales at the markets. All business expenses anyway.  ;D
