.........off the pony's back!!!
sometime between feeding them at teatime yesterday and 7 am this morning, and they are in a field right next to the house!
GRRRRRRRR!!!
-
Wha stinking thing to do, >:(
-
You sure? Seems a pretty odd thing to nick in the middle of the night tbh. Maybe it fell off or something? My mates little sister nicked a garden knome the other evening, but she is young and was probably fairly drunk. I told her to go and put it back but sadly she cannot remember acquiring it. Cant see anyone wanting an old blanket though.
-
It does happen: at our old place my pony's headcollar was nicked from beside the field. It wasnt very new or very fancy. Makes you mad!!! >:(
-
You'll be surprised Smalltime.
Really sorry, that's a bummer. My sister in laws livery had loads nicked over night so they all had to paint on their post code in huge white letters.
My neighbour came over to warn me they had had taken two gates and a round bale feeder within two hours in the middle of the day. Makes me so cross when we work hard to pay for our stuff.
-
it could have been worse the horse stolen and the blanket left or both stolen :farmer:
-
postcodes dont always work tho they do deter most, at our old place there was a farm livery nearby and they postcoded their rugs. All were stolen from the horses backs and were thereafter being openly worn by the horses at the travellers site (which had a different postcode....) at the end of the village. Police not interested in entering the site so they got to keep them, I suppose at least their horses were warm.
Our yard didnt get rugs stolen but I think that was connected to the YOs 4 pet rottweilers :-O) (they also owned a scaffold yard so they guarded the livery and the yard).
-
i don't condone theft but that yard owner with the dogs was leaving himself wide open to charges and claims had anybody been attacked by these dogs even if the dogs are inside and they break in and get savaged the owner is responsible daft i know but that is the view of the police and the courts and who says crime does not pay :farmer:
-
Is that right? Is it illegal to have a guard dog now then?
-
free roaming a workmate years ago had a rottie that was let lose in a warehouse every night until in a similar situation a thief was savaged and the leaving of dogs unattended was outlawed
there is a house near me that was broken into many years ago he had a collie and an Alsatian tied up outside when he asked the police what would happen if they were inside and attacked the burglar he would get done for posessing a dangerous dog daft i know :farmer:
-
Yes, Absolutely right. All I can say is the law is not just an ass - it's an effing ar*e (and I don't swear as a rule!)

These dogs are well trained. They are trained like police dogs to hold an intruder, not to attack them. But they dont need to, because the need doesnt arise, big black and tan dogs are the ONLY thing the worst characters at the travellers site were put off by.
The point of them being there is that they are actually family pets, but also that their presence means the livery and scaffold businesses are still running, which given the record of the 'site' which includes armed robbery, assault, theft, arson and I could go on, is purely and solely because of the dogs.
In any case the dogs are patrolling both the house/garden and the scaffold yard, it is part of the 'garden' :-))) It is very clear they are there, so a thief couldnt break in unawares as they might in a warehouse.
They might be done for possessing a 'dangerous' dog but I think they take the view that for that to happen, something serious would have taken place and at least their family would still be alive and not have a torched house/business.

generally u cant put a sign up saying " beware of the guard dog" cos that would imply you had trained the dog to bite etc
-
Dont think anyone has told the scrappers near me :D
Reminds me, I learnt last week that you cant put up a sign saying 'beware of the bull' because if it hurt someone you were then liable. Absolute madness, all comes from Europe anyway.

i heard that too - do u need to have a sign up tho ? "bull in field" is the one now?? or do u not have to?
was it an expensive rug that was stolen?
-
I think there are some approved standard signs.
I have a Doberman and I have a nice sign (which I havent put up tho!)
It says

Please remove any mobile phones, keyrings, jewellery, coins and purses. The Doberman cannot digest these items

When i first read this i thought it was a (fun) sign inviting guests to pinch from you, cos your dog chews stuff.......
-
Tazbabe - there are bad bad people in this world. I'm just glad that your pony was not harmed.
Is it possible to cover the area with cctv? I've just bought some amazing kit, it even sends a warning photo of 'suspected incident' to our mobiles if/when it detects movement!
:horse:
-
our place had cctv when we moved here but the kids from the village had smashed it up and cut the cables.
::) :o
