cool annie, i had assumed that most small producers would only have limited supplys at this time of year...

did feel all scuzzy and wrong buying them in a shop....

I just refrained from buying....mine are totaly free range (indoors at night) and with it being so cold we are down to one egg a day. Luckily my friend overwinters his in a lit cellar so his production is still not too bad and we could have a box.

Could you not have had an egg free holiday  ;D
I'm fed up of eggs and even the ducks won't stop laying ( we even lift them frozen and cracked - pig food)  despite the snow and cold for nearly 3 weeks. I have not even had a stroll up the lane to give eggs away to our neighbours.
Egg Curry in dynamite sauce tonight ! I'll be blowed  ;D

the last of our old eggs ran out a couple of weeks ago and we had started to get withdrawal we are working on a plan to keep some maybe...

going without is hard as on my wifes diet (slimming world) eggs are allowed food.

for now when the ones i bought run out i have a nice supply sorted (hopefully)...

I remember when I kept hens when my youngest was about four.  He loved eggs for lunch, especially yellow eggs (scrambled) or flat eggs (fried).

One winter, they had stopped laying (all twenty of the blighters) so I had to buy some shop eggs - battery at that as our shop didn't have free range.  David asked for yellow egg for lunch.  I dished up his scrambled egg on toast and he looked at it in disgust.  "That's not yellow egg.  That's white!"  Clearly a boy with good taste.

if you have room, Ducks are pretty good at keeping the egg supply going through the winter :)

Not always - mine stopped in December and haven't started again yet.  They have a laying season too but not so much due to the lack of light, more to do with the weather I believe.
