Well I'm finally getting my new Golden Retriever dog puppy. Have been looking for ages for one that is just right.
Mums scores 8 & Dads 11 and excellant bloodlines.
When the pup is old enough and has been hip, elbow & eye tested and is good enough (or he'lI be sniped) I will be using him with my lovely Goldie bitch who is now one and due to have all her hips & elbows scored next week.
Any idea for a name. Something unusual would be lovely.

Lovely, we are all pupped up at the mo 9 pups and also 4 adult dogs..I always name mine from Lord of the RIngs, placed on the map or charactors, some nice not so unusual now names, one of our big black male pups from last year has a kennel and pet name of Saramun and a pretty little girl from the same litter Lyra...we also have names like Gandolf, Evenstar, Rivendell, Mordor, Rohan etc etc....if you have a fave film, book or place why not give your dog that special name...!!!

R2D2? ;D
-
E.T?
-
So far in the running Yancy a native American name meaning Englishman and Boyd supposedly meaning fair one & Riley meaning?!!!!
-
Don't Riley make snooker tables? ;D
-
I know three Goldies called Riley! ;D ;D
-
That's Riley out, as it is more usual than unusual.
I'll have to put my thinking cap on as I will need to get him a dog disc soon. He isn't microchipped yet so will have that done along with his vaccinations as soon as possible.

Do NOT put his name on his disc!!!!!! If he gets lost and someone grabs his colalr sees his name they can then reassure him and persuade him to go with them more easily. Your surname, address and post code, (by law) and vets phone number are all that are needed. I usually add the words 'I am chipped'
-
I usually try for a pun - what's your bitch called? Where is the dog coming from (address / name of people / prefix)? What are his mum and dad called? Any other related facts that I could work with? :D
-
We rehomed a wee Springer called Riley....He's a cracking little Bhoy and a welcome addition to our clan....
-
"Bently", because I'd just love one of their sporty ones. ;D ;D
-
Bentley sounds properly grand for a grand breed of dog
-
Riley is irish for courageous. My daughter is a riley - its quite hard to holler it when they are naughty..lol
Gandolf,
our white cockeral was called gandolf! he was gorgeous...then dropped dead! grrr
-
I'd name my next dog Sennen or Zennor, two of my fav Cornish beaches.
-
i suppose 'porthcurno' is a bit long.... :D
-
So what is it?
-
How about 'Farley'? Those rusks are a sort of golden colour, from memory?!
-
We named him plain ordinary Jake in the end. He has a beautiful retriever nature without a nasty bone in his body and is a real nice addition to the family. Will post a picture later. :)
-
thats a good name. i rem my aunties dog - digger!
-
Jake is now 4 months old and fast catching up with the girls.

Love retrievers, such nice dogs and wonderful pets!!

I love labs as well. My first dog after we married was a beautiful red fox (not then a designer colour) lab. He went everywhere with me and when our son was born guarded him with his life.He died when he was 13 curled up in his bed and didnot suffer one day of illness all his life.
I told my son several years ago to start saving as that was what I wanted for my 60th birthday. Just got to wait for that day to arrive to see if it materialises.
-
We have 4 labs and would have loads more as they are so easy and loving...my 60th is comming very soon and another choc lab would be ideal
-
Give a few discreet hints here and there. It might work.
-
Me and hubby both want another choc Lab so thats OK, just hope that next litter from our chocolate female will produce at least one, the last litter from her were all black!!!!
-
Chocolate should not be mated with Yellow otherwise pink nosed yellow dudleys can be born, but with another chocolate or a black is fine; the colour of the resultant puppies depends upon the genes carried by both parents, not necessarily the colours that the parents are. So in a choc to choc mating you could get any combination depending on what is behind the parents - and not necessarily in the immediately previous generation
Chocolate is not dominant and there does not need to be a black parent to produce black puppies.
Colour genetics in any dog is a complicated issue which can be investigated prior to mating.

We have a choc sire ready who has similar choc pedigree to ours and has the same grt grt grand parents......they were choc too !!!!! We have it sorted and have spoke to some one about it and yes, it is complex indeed, chances are she will have 1 choc and it will be a male...and we are booked in for gun dog training with Charlie now too..yippppeeeeeee!!

Brilliant - you'll have great fun, he's an excellent teacher! Very patient with both dogs and handlers. Can see Steve doing gundog tests or trials yet! ;)
-
I wish he had time as we both would love it , steve really wants to ride horses, think he would love that, IF I had enough funds we would have bought a horse years ago..mind you, you know I really want a donkey and cart!! ;)
-
How about a pony & governess trap, that would get you & the dogs around. Might be a bit chilly in the winter, but what fun the rest of the time , when it's not raining of course.
I would love one. Can ride but have not for about 15years, but can't afford a horse. I'll have to do the lottery, never know!!!!!!
I hope you have a choccy pup the next time around that is just right for you......... ;D
-
I would absolutly love a pony and trap with the dogs in as well, I would take them to the forest and ride around while they walk...I am not sure a trap would be allowed but there are loads of people take dog teams around the forest and loads ride horses so??????? Anyway, thats a dream sadly!!
-
We all need our dreams. Like you, Kaz, I used to ride a lot, and at one time had plenty of land and stables, but had to work and my husband was scared of horses so couldn't have one then. I will have one if the lottery ever comes up! Even if I can't ride nowadays (bone condition), my kids and grandchildren can.
