if it is one that gets lifted by mechanical means  IE  the back of the bin Lorrie   it will have been swallowed by the Lorrie     phone the council and tell them they will replace it :farmer:

We've marked ours prominently and permanently to avoid "confusions"

Yes Small Farmer we should have marked it very clearly - we have to buy them in Aberdeenshire unlike Perthshire that you only have to buy additional bins so I have had the marker pen out - will do with the next one - some nice marker pen art work my do it - do marker pens come in different colours!!

I would also recommend checking that the big bin machine didnt swallow it, it is quite a well known problem. We are lucky as our bins are in a location too tight for the big auto bin lorry to turn so we get the normal smaller manual lorry.

In Shetland we dont have bins, they get blown away ::) So everyone has a bruck box at the road side. A wooden box made with four fence posts  wooden sides and a lid , simple. Some folk just have a heavy bit of fishing net they throw over the rubbish bags when they put them out on bruck day. Was it a wheelie bin? someone may have read the silage in wheelie bins post!

We live in the middle of nowhere too but our bins are electronically tagged !
The bins have never been in trouble and are not naughty its just our rubbish people weigh and volume calculate what we trash so they can provide more bins or empty them more than once a fortnight.

That's very civilised.  Why can't they do that here?

It's a French thing me thinks  ;)

Councils here (UK) have been toying with the idea for years, but as usual
they string out any changes for decades to keep themselves in a job, and to make themselves seem
more important than they really are.

Bin the council

MAK re your post ....... We live in the middle of nowhere too but our bins are electronically tagged !
The bins have never been in trouble and are not naughty its just our rubbish people weigh and volume calculate what we trash so they can provide more bins or empty them more than once a fortnight.

If that was done in the UK they'd want tripple local authority taxes which at basic rate are about three times more than yours.
It's already being mooted that once you reach a set amount of collected waste in some of the London borought you'll get fined  , then they wonder why people fly tip in the streets and woods.

My daughter had to put a big solid padlock & security hasp on her bin that's chained to the front wall area as other people were filing her bin up and leaving it so full the lid would not close .. The collectors won't empty a too full bin.

We HAD a rope and capabina to clip the bin to the fence but that was more from the point of it getting blown away but this occurred in the hour of collection when it has to go to kerb side - it's OK I'm over the loss now - council are to investigate if the bin lorry eat it!!

The binman left a large binbag with me after christmas cos it might have hurt him lifting it up cos it was the wrong size.  I put it in the back of the landy to take to the dump and someone stole it when I was in town.

I kinda laughed, but did expect a call from the council when it was found in a stream or something ;)

Baz

edit
I didnt put it in a stream it was nicked (*damn sarcasm) - but I expected the perpetrator to notice at some point!!!

When I was upgrading a flat in Edinburgh I had to get a small skip in for the job.

Day 1 filled the skip with old carpets and kitchen bits
next day the skip was empty
Day 2 filled the same skip with old panel and storage heaters
next day the skip was empty
Day 3 filled the same skip again, with bricks and rubble
No takers ! ( I was suprised considering the amount of pot holes about )

Still I think I saved about £300 on skip hire

8 out of 10 for Endinburgh's recycling programme

Or as we call them up here Skip - Rats!  :bunny:
