Title: Taking animals to mart
Post by: welshlass181 on February 01, 2012, 08:53:33 pm
Never taken or bought from a mart and i was wondering about the movement things?  Does the market need to have a holding number?  Do i fill out a travel form to there with the number or does it work like a vet journey?  This is new for me

having looked at the eaml2 stuff this week and run through it all to go to slaughter, it does appear that it will pick up the holding numer of a market or sale place, (certainly hereford market is in there) once you put a destination down.
you certainly had to put destination such as "so so market" on the old paper forms but not a number... i expect the new system will recognise the address and give a holding number.
biggest problem we had was printing out the electronic stuff for the haulier as printer had no ink, though he tried to confirm via phone but got an answer phone....technology great  ;)

I assume it's similar to sheep going to mart - the pig AML form is the same as the two versions ago sheep one.

In which case, the Departure Keeper initiates the paperwork and the Receiver sends the top copy to Trading Standards.

So, welshlass, you would write up the AML, with all your address, holding number, herd mark, the pigs' individual numbers, details of the transport, and the address of the destination.  On arrival, the mart staff will fill in their holding number and the number of animals received and give you back your copies.  They will send the top copy off to Trading Standards.

When you buy from the mart it's the other way about - they are the Departure Keeper so initiate the paperwork.  Most of them are geared up to send your top copy to Trading Standards for you, depending on whether you are in the same region as the mart, but officially I think it should accompany the pigs to their destination and the final section only be completed on arrival.
