Our OSBs are 6 months old and have a flaky, dry skin at the moment, there are no signs of mites, and we are wondering if this is normal and if there are any treatments we should be using on them.
Any information would be appreciated :pig:

are they going to slaughter?
if ur worried, inject them with panomec, that does internal and external parasites.
-
if you inject them you will have a withdrawal period :farmer:

Pigs do get hairier in winter and i find mine shed skin too from being inside in drier conditions, give them a good scratch or stiff brush to release the flakes, let them shake. You can also give them a rub over with a smear of pig or baby oil and i find a couple of tablespoons of cod liver oil a week in their feed helps too.

Thank you all for the advice, our pigs are fully inoculated and we are keeping them for breeding, we have taken on board your suggestions and I will be purchasing some cod liver oil for them. Thanks again :pig:

Now this is going to sound mad but... we have two guilts for breeding and in the summer i have used an exfoliating mitt with some goats milk soap from plumbseverywhere, then applied the cheaper version of E45 cream! works a treat

I fear your crackling may taste a bit like a chemist :o

They are for breeding not eating! We don't have kids so must be a substitute! ;)

lol - mine looked a bit flaky at one stage and I did contemplate rubbing some vegetable oil on their skin (bit of a massage!!) but thought they might start trying to eat each other. I did pour a little over their feed for a few days though (hope that was not a bad thing to do). They are beautiful now!! Well I think so.
