Hi folks - I know there is another thread on dog poo wormeries which I have read with interest, and know that we have some experienced wormeriners (??) on here! So please can I pick your brains. I was discussing the idea of a wormery with a border collie rescue. They have upwards of 40 dogs at any one time and disposal of poo is expensive if they have to pay to have it taken away.
Initial questions are:
In with the dog poo will be newspaper and wood shavings from the bedding - will this be able to be thrown in with the dog poo?
How long does it take for say a dustbin full to rot down?
Will worming treatment affect the worms in the wormery?
Does anyone have any design ideas for wormeries on this scale? £150 is far too much for a rescue to pay so anything based around normal dustbins would be cheaper, or perhaps the tyre idea? It needs to be able to be emptied manually when the compost is to be removed and not require a load-all!

should I have put this in another area of the forum? no replies yet :( :(

have u tried asking the wonderwormsuk guys? they seem friendly enough.

Dunno about large scale poo bins, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work.
As for wormers, I think they would kill your wormery worms as well as tapes and rounds etc ;)

i was told by a friend that u cudnt use horse poo in the wormery if u worm your horses, but that wasnt true,. instead there is a length of time after worming that u cant use medicated worm - ie a withdrawal period. i cant remember how long off the top of my head but its not ages.

thanks everyone. the rescue have bought a normal sized dog poo wormery to trial it, and may look at making some more if it's successful.

OOOH OOOH I might be able to help now ;D ;D
I just visited a friends yard and he is renting out somewhere for the festival loo guys.....
They have a sea of wheelie bins, each with a tap at the bottom.Into this they bung some sawdust/shavings then a layer of hippy s**t (genuine from the festival ;) ) then sawdust etc apparently it doesn't take long to rot down, and that's without worms! Should be super quick with worms in there ;)
If it works with human poo, it'll work with dog poo :farmer: :dog:
