Will any one have point of lay ducks for sale in the spring around the Islands?
We will be moving in the next week or so to Lewis and are keen to get the ducks up and running.
Also chickens? we will be taking our girls but now have room for more :chook: :chook:

Hi
Sorry for late reply forgot to check back. Yes probably will still have some. We have Dingwall sale in March and Carilse in April. Hoping to get down to just breeding stock after the sales.

Thanks for that, have looked up the area sales, Carlisle looks good and April is a good time, just getting used to figuring in the ferry times, sure I will get used to that!
So pleased to have the chance to keep poultry again, and the 'wee burn' as the estate agent says will be great for ducks :)

Hi
We only have a 45min journey to the mainland you have a long ferry journey and not very often. I am sure you will soon settle in to Island life, great time of year to move let you settle before winter comes.
The dingwall sale is smaller than Carisle but we love both sales, very friendly people. Have a good think about what poultry breeds you want. Do you want just lots of eggs or will you breed them and eat the excess drakes etc.
We keep muscovies because they breed well on their own, no need for an incubator, we then put all the drakes raised in the freezer and sell a few ducks and trios.
Wish you all the best in your move. There is a man Donald Macdonald on Skye who sells good chicken houses.

Thanks Sarah
We just want the eggs, we are both veggies, so all poultry have long lives with us ;D we are bringing the five girls we already have, one Brenda is a Scotch Dumpy and I would love some more of them. As we just want eggs and hopefully help with keeping pests at bay I would rather buy POL chickens and ducks so no worry about what to do with the boys!
OH is a furniture maker so we should be good for housing.
Hopefully we will be settled before winter, the house needs work of course but so pleased at last to have a little bit of land.
