Title: Lambs on the way
Post by: lee.arron on January 24, 2012, 08:33:44 pm
10 days early but one of my ewes is showing all the signs so hourly  checks tonight having at least twins . deep breathing not interested in her food and segregated herself. Be my first time so hope it goes well. is 10 days ish a big problem .

Depends on how the dates were estimated but like humans its a range rather than an absolute number. Sounds like you're going to find out.

Remember don't intervene early.  Most of them can do it themselves.

Good luck, but you shouldn't need luck!

The only time I had a ewe trying to lamb that early she had ringwomb, so if you see her straining with nothing showing after an hour, check by having a gentle feel inside that her cervix is opening.

she seems ok at the minute no straining , sheep had previous owner at time of tupping and im told approximate date so cant be hundred percent so shes most probably ontrack she seems calmer than me anyway :) .  im just regularly observing her after all she knows better than me ill be there just incase.  grinding of the teeth has started to happen and was reading a bit about it   seems a bad sign but then other information i read its a sign of labour

Go away and have a cup of tea...or something stronger....if she has lambed before she will probably be fine! If she hasn't she will also probably be fine! Don't rush to intervene.....don't interfere unless you really have to! Deep breaths!

Tooth grinding is normal, sheep do it as an expression of discomfort and I reckon labour is uncomfortable!! Has she been pawing the ground and getting up and down? Is she a first timer?  Sounds like she may well be on time, hopefully she won't keep you hanging about all night!

Is she chewing the cud Lam666 that is usually the sign of a happy sheep if she looks uncomfortable and getting up and down a lot and this is going on too long i would have a liitle feel to see if there are any legs apparent and if she is opening up.
If she's not straining and still eating i would leave her alone for a bit longer
