Hi Sandy,

Just want to state my feelings towards annoying adverts, I know it's what makes business tick
I just think there can be more tasteful ways of doing it.

What's your worst tv, radio,  ad?

We don't seem to watch live tv much. Mostly we watch stuff recorded off freesat so we skip the ads.  We did see the whole of The Killing I, but not until the next one was being broadcast three months later.

What gets us are the 0844 robot telephone calls.

(I'm afraid the actor who voices that meerkat is a family friend.)

You have just reminded me of one of the big advantages of not having TV.  No adverts.  Don't listen to commercial radio either.

We tend to watch catch up but last night there was a tacky add, it showed a slobbish type man going into a casino and playing machines, eating and throwing his food to the foor, it was meant to be tacky and also supposeidly to be a bit care free  BUT...I cannot remember what it was for...when I see it again I will remember.....I used to hate all the Bingo adds just because they stuck in your head all day!!!!!!! Buy the way, does anyone else hum to themselves most of the day? I made a recording of the dogs and I could hear my effort that was a cross between a whistle and a hum!!!!!! must stop it as I look silly!!

We have one small telly in the kitchen , mainly for news and an occassional good programme such as the stargazing and the Billy Connolly tour of the frozen North.I found the off button years ago and prefer to sit in my 'quiet' room sewing of crocheting. When the light nights come I will be outside. I usually find out about a good progamme after its been on and watch it on the laptop. The adverts are part of the money making for the companies so are needed but if there is any more 'brain dead on ice' or who?come dancing  programmes the telly will finally be out of the window. I prefer the singing penguin.

We have saved ourselves 5 years of TV licence payments by not having one!!!! Must be about 700 quid or so....

You are all making me feel quilty.  I have 4 tv''s and also watch on one of the monitors on my desktop.

I love nothing more than settling down to watch a soap with some knitting/crochet/cross stitch.

Having said that I expect it will all change when I finally move to the smallholding. There probably won't be enough hours in the day to watch tv then.

I don't hate all adverts as there are some clever ones but do hate the one that Bangbang mentioned.  There is also a double glazing add that drives me mad.  Why do they have to shout so much?

Sally

I know the 2 adverts you are on about . They drive me MAD >:(. I always hit the mute button while complaining and using lots of words I'm never going to be aloud to print ;D.

That's why they keep on showing and making these - they are so awful and annoying that they stick in our minds if we want to or not! BTW, the singer in question got a professional job through this I heard, so there is hope that he'll stop doing ads!  :&>

I do not like both of those adds, still to find out the one i mean but I am sure some of the worse adds stick in your minds the most...Peee ing shake and vac for instance and B***dy, Mc Oven chips.....I used to hum them all the time......now I will be doing it again!!!!!

I heard on the gadget show that now they are going to make ads more interesting for people who download films on a rental basis, not a bad idea if you watch a lot of films, wasted on me as I wonder off during most of them, although a few make me stick in my seat and not connect on the web ::)

The ad with the dolly bird prancing and singing about a sweetener made from a leaf...irritates me no end!

I like the comment someone made on another forum about ads. The first ad was about teaching your children they could die from a horrible disease if they touch a soap dispenser with the next one saying it is ok to eat sweepings up off the slaughter house floor if it is coated in a spicy breadcrumb!!

Hi Hermit, you made a good reference to a soap dispenser, what do you think of the hands free one on the market?

1.  You turn on the taps (applying bugs)
2. Get your soap without touching the dispenser! great!
3. Turn off the taps (pick up the bugs again)
4.Then wipe your hands on the towel.

Solution - we all need hands free taps!

It's that Sheila's Wheels one that gets me - and I even use them for MY car insurance!

Some people are very gullible BB and some like to impress through the products they buy . All the fault of advertising .
I don't like the way the women get all the constipation, incontinence, diarrhea etc and the men get the Lynx effect. >:(

Jane Horrocks or Jane Horrocks soundalikes in ads! I love her as an actress in AbFab and Little Voice but ADS, unbearable (Tesco and Quorn) - oh and the worst , the Lloyds bl''#dy tune for their cartoon with the ugly people with big noses - NOW I'LL HAVE THAT STUCK IN MY HEAD FOR THE DAY!!!! :&>

I agree that one of the worst things about owning a TV is having to mute the ads - but how can anyone not own one.?

The TV is one of the best forms of media that not only inform you of whats going on throughout the planet but also if you watch the right programs throughout everything.

I cant understand anyone who condemns TV as some form of indoctrination but then appears on a forum on the internet. Whats going on? You dont 'have' to believe everything on the TV the same as your approach to the net.

Media is media - you get from it what you want - you dont have to take all of it.

Surely the meerkats are going to become classic ad's, just like the Smash spacemen are a classic of their  time, they're not all bad. As a matter of principal though I will NOT be ringing 0800 106107 now or any other time !! So they're not all good either.

I don't have TV but I don't condemn them (only the adverts).  I just rarely found time to watch it so it wasn't worth ther license.  We listen to radio.

I can percectly understand why people choose not to have a tV. Most of it is dumbing -down rubbish plus ads, a waste of time. We just choose a few programs we really want to see. C4 news, Masterchef, some other cooking programs and movie dvds.... :&>

We did not know that Bin laden was dead until friends visited us. Although we felt a bit dumb it was great not to addictively watch the news and endless cr-p on TV.
BUT we got a TV and UK Freesat set up the day the Rugby World Cup Started. ;D :trophy:
We try and watch it every night now and have neglected the idea to rig up our camera and infra-red lights to watch what goes on in the barn at night. Why bother when we can watch edited highlights on Springwatch. We have given up getting up at dawn to look for otters too - luv the meerkats though !

Those 2 silly women on the Harvey furnature advert during and before Coronation Street.
I'd not buy anything from that shop because of the advert.

Do people really get paid for coming up with these stupid adverts?

and I so used to love the actress as Martha in Lead Balloon. Repeating myself here - just say Maltesers and IT Crowd, what a shame.... :&>

My main bugbears are the patronising - see any baby product sold in a "coochy cocchy coo" voice - and the repeating. I don't need to see the same blooming ad every 30 seconds!!

I do like the one with the flying washing machines etc, took a while before they said what it was for but it's kind of airmiles/shopping points? But I find the music very chilled....

on the positive side - are there any that you like and would like to see more of? Maybe some where you could turn the picture off and just listen to the music? I did try to find some tunes from ads I must admit!
I personally quite enjoyed the Yeo Valley mock ads, boyband, rappers, just so funny on their tractors and in the haybarn ;D ;D :&>
