Title: Hello
Post by: exmoorlady on March 23, 2009, 09:52:59 am
Hi everyone just thoought we would introduce ourselves
we bought 4 acres in somerset on the brendon hills last year along with our 9 dogs( 7 Whippets :dog: a beagle and a terrier) and 4 chickens  :chook: that have now expanded to 30. We have a horse,  :horse:  4 ewes   :sheep:  that are due to lamb in 3 weeks  and have just got a couple of GOP pigs :pig: who are great fun but WILL be going in the freezer. We grew a few veggies last year but I have now expanded the veg plot and hope we can be self sufficient in veg this year (weather permitting). We hope to have a polytunnel when the pigs have cleared the ground. After reading what everybody else is up to it has spurred us to maybe try other things, maybe ducks and geese. We have had 2 turkey stags     :turkey:  move in with us from a neighbour and they look like they have no intention of going back so maybe if we can find some hens we can maybe breed some for the table. Its all great fun and we love it.

Welcome Sharon and Alec!
My favourite thing is to be able to work in the poly tunnel on a less than perfect day ... listening to the chickens pottering around outside (and the occasional clever one that works out how to join me!) - enjoying the extra warmth and the way things grow so quickly - Fab.
