we have decided to slaughter our barren, almost 3 year old KK gilt so need lots of advice!!! looking on the scottish premier, inverurie website they say their maximum weight is 120kg but when i did the tape measure system i was getting 160kg (we do have scales which will give us the correct weight)
so my questions are Who would slaughter in the Aberdeenshire area, at almost 3 is it suggestable just sausages or is bacon a possibility?
As i say this is the first ever time we have done this so all advice is welcome!

you could also try Millers of Speyside at Grantown as they specialise a bit more in private kills and I know they do pigs. Its a smaller quieter place than Inverurie!

Can't help with the abattoir question unfortunately :-\
But you should be able to get some back/streaky bacon & gammon joints as well as sausages/burgers.
Pork joints would probably be tough (compared to that of younger pigs) but with a little creative cookery (and a slow cooker ) it's not completely unfeasible to have them too.
Spare ribs would also be good ;)

HI,take to grantown, millers, they are good service, due to the pig been over size due to age they have to put down the cattle line, which costs more,i think it is £60,cheapest option for butchering afterwards is local butcher,we use thompson at keith,he charges 50p a kilo and will do sausage and burgers for same money,he will add flavours like red onion, leek cranberry etc.Millers do do sausage but dont do flavours. We have killed older kune, kune,if not over weight fine for all joints ,but if on the plump side sausages and burgers best option. They taste great by the way u wont be dissapointed.P.s. Nora wasnt in pig unfortunatley.

Balloch, exact advice that millers gave when i called them, they seemed really nice. I may have measured wrong, reading other posts, she may have had her head down, husband has proper scales that we can use. What a pity Nora wasnt in pig, have PMd you.

according to the AA, St Andrews is 109 miles, Grantown on Spey (where Millers are) is 95. So it might be worth looking at.
However i suspect the roads are slower to Grantown so maybe that's a consideration?
Either way I really feel it is a disgrace that the rules and regs which have the best of intentions make for a situation where you are having to transport that far to take animals to slaughter :-((
