Title: V.excited new duck
Post by: funkyfish on January 14, 2012, 06:21:15 pm
Picked up a female Silver Appleyard to go with my drake and K.Campbell female. Hopefully ducklings later on in the year! - just hope they are not too cute to eat....
Our lovely IG cockerel has started crowing, got him a couple of lady friends today as well- a C.Black tail and a L.Sussex , so poss lots of babies in a few months!!

Am so sad, an really excited that our chicken empire is starting to get going!

You have to know that if you keep the young ducks cause they are cute or totally black in my case, inbreeding will occur and ducks dont do inbreeding, they will be smaller and weaker all the time.We found this and then was told this, the Shetland way of letting you learn by your mistakes so you dont forget it. We ended up having to cull all our ducks and starting again.
A friend of ours has been trying to give us a stonker of a Plymouth RockBarred  cockerel for ages.  We gave in yesterday and so now we are starting with another breeding pen!!!!  Just need some RIR hens off another friend and laying sorted for the next generation as well.
