HI all - have just searched on finishing and got lots of good info thanks - but I am still confused... ??? I've been told by a few people that I need to stop giving peelings etc 4 weeks before slaughter - is this true and do I need to change from farmgate growers pellets. The meat is for our own consumption and flavour (and happy pigs) is the aim. The pigs have a big field to root in (and I have been moving them along every 3-4 weeks to give them some fresh ground) and seem to be doing well on pellets, apples veg peelings. Do I need to do anything different in these final weeks?

Hi Ya, my piggies get fed the same thing right up to slaughter my meat is delicious and the sausages are fab

I agree, mine get the same feed throughout and veg/fruit right up til the end (except maybe cauliflour & turnip as I heard that can affect it - but unless you were feeding loads of it I doubt it would make much of a difference) Pigs that are outside on soil usually have much more flavoursome meat than those on concrete, so I wouldn't worry too much about it

Me too......all the same food right through for mine :)

Many thanks! Was worried I had overlooked some legislation (thought it didnt make practical sense!!).

FIB,
In the UK, anything from a kitchen is illegal, this would include "peelings" unless all your veg is peeled outside from the kitchen with seperate utensils. So if your question is a legal one, then it is not legal to be feeding peelings in the first place.
