Title: Rare breeds sales, Scotland
Post by: Rosemary on January 07, 2012, 01:47:30 pm
I've just been reading through the sale guide for 2012 in this week's Scottish Farmer. I'm a bit disappointed but not altogether surprised to see that there are fewer RB sales this year.

Thainstone has two - 5th May and 1st September

Caledonian, Stirling doesn't have any listed, neither does UA, but then they've never done one. The Caley one was the annual Heb Show and Sale too, I think.

Carlisle has their big sale in September 22nd.

Dingwall - 10th March and 3rd November

Even Lanark doesn't have any listed. It does have regular poultry sales though - as does Forfar.

Were they just not supported?

Lanark IS having a rare breed sale  Hopefully it'll be an RBST approved one too, I'll keep you posted  ;)
31st August (entries close 21st August) at 10.30am.

This is as well as their monthly poultry sale - which should really read as PIG & poultry  ;) and various other shows and sales throughout the year - it's quite a busy schedule. Here's a link for the yearly sale page http://www.lawrie-and-symington.com/sale-dates/ (http://www.lawrie-and-symington.com/sale-dates/) Everyone know's I'm quite a fan of Lanark and most poultry sales will see me lurking in the pig area  ;D

Also, Stirling Caledonian will have it's usual sale in Sept but they just don't get their @r$£$ into gear until a couple of weeks before the sale, and then only with a lot of prodding  :sheep: :horse: :pig: :goat: :chook:

I could only see two.

Ah, Karen, I did know about that at Lanark.

I'm going south this year - Carlisle to sell and hopefully buy a tup.

I like Carlisle Rosemary usually lots of Ryelands also second York sale is good . I,m afraid the Scottish sales are not a patch on these two for variety and numbers.

I agree Carlisle is a good sale never been to York hopefully this year though. Also Dingwall is a good sale better than the Caley sale any day of the week. Are they going to put Lanark sale on a saturday then.  :)
