Hi all - amongst other odds and ends I collect colanders. Strange but true. I obviously collect sheep and pigs but we are a farm of sorts. Hope to increase our Berkshires soon - one due today and the other on the 5th Jan - but cant keep them all. Jan

I collected pigs (not live ones) by accident. Many yearsw ago my daughter and I planned a holiday in Ireland and she gave me a piggy bank to save in. (She then metamorphosed into the teenager from hell so I decided she could go on her own). Then I once mentioned to a friend that I love pigs. This friend had seen my piggy bankand gave me another one. Someone saw them and thought I collected them so gave me another one, etc etc. Then I started being given small pig ornaments and big fluffy pigs. It was all very nice until we started being overrun by the things and what was worse, I had to DUST them. In the end, I had to pack them all away because I was being given nothing but pigs as presents. What I really want is a REAL pig but lack the space.
-
I collect fairies(not real ones ::)) and tiny teddy bears. According to the OH, I also collect dogs but they just happen along ;D.
-
Bad habits !
-
Crown derby porcelain (Imari pattern 1128), soap moulds (most of which i never use) and I seem to have a collection of other peoples children here most days to "see the animals".
-
Dirty washing, always seem to be gathering it and putting the washer on! used to collect Crown Derby paperweights, ran out of room and fed up of dusting them, now they are in 3 big boxes packed away in attic. The childrens inheritance.
-
Junk - anything for free that I can possibly use; anything I can dismantle for parts; anything with scrap value; anything that can be chopped up for firewood; anything that I feel it's a waste to let it be thrown away.
Anything really. ;D

I seem to collect loonie women. I'm on my 4th at the moment and over many years it's a habit I cannot seem to break.
But, by the time you discover that they are barking mad it's to late to take them back to the lampost I found them tied to.

Dogs, cats, hens... seriously though, Emma Bridgewater bird mugs. I also have a few of the dog ones too. It's getting harder to get original ones as they are so popular with some making around the £200 mark.

ditto on mud and dog hair - we're both loony so ok on that front - OH has a collection of art stuff 'for when he has time' .......... likewise I have a collection of material for when I have time ......... and regularly a collection of empty cider bottles

Seeds and wrinkles.

Goat manure. I have five big bins (made from pallets) for it and all but one are full.

Now thats a result - good manure

Beswick cattle, I have families of Friesian, Jersey, Guernsey, Ayrshire, Hereford, and Highland cattle. I really want the Dairy Shorthorns, but you could buy a live one for the price of the models!

I collect all sorts of hand tools. Anything that's got a probable use and I need some of them in triplicate because I have tools for work, tools in the Orchard and tools in the cellar. I used to collect apparent junk, but most of it has been used for making or fixing things and the rest has been chucked as I needed the space to build chicken coops. The main thing I have been desperately looking for but haven't found yet is a 'mole catchers fork', and I only need one of those.
-
What is a mole catcher's fork? Obviously it's a fork for catching moles but in what way does it differ from any other fork?
-
A 'mole catcher's fork' has twice as many prongs, 8 -10. They are all straight and shaped on their cross-section for spearing not really digging. I suppose most have been broken and thrown away. If you have ever 'hunted' moles you will have stood silently amongst mole hills and waited for one to show signs of movement. The mole is underneath pushing another 'slug' of soil out. At that point the fork is plunged straight down into the hill, in alignment with the adjacent hills. It is then slowly removed as if lifting soil and the mole should be pierced and dead on the end of one of the prongs. If you have livestock in the area like sheep you can't use traps. A normal fork has too big a prong spacing and they are not straight so they veer off when plunging and give the mole too much chance of being missed. They are also too big so they don't go in quick enough -if you are going to stand there for 20 minutes or so you need a result. Sorry if this upsets some people. Appreciate if anyone has one or sees one could they let me know, best price paid. Otherwise I will have to make something.
When I am next at the Victorian Town I will PM you MGM.

if you can supply a pic or drawing, there is a place near me that sell ALL sorts of old tools. If I know what i'm looking for I can have a rummage for you ;)
-
Thanks Colliewoman. I'll sketch something up, scan it and PM you as soon as I can. I am on the 'tools wanted' list for one old tool supplier. He has seen one before, but didn't know that's what it was, and hasn't seen another one in 18 months since I went on the list.

Hello, I collect second hand picture frames, mostly from the skip and re-cycle areas. My intentions are to put some of my own arty pictures into them, sadly I have more fun collecting them than filling them. Empty frames now numbering 25.
I live with a sacks of intention and a bag of completion. :&>
