yet another disagreement, is barring the white or black ?

Sex-linked barring is white, autosomal transverse barring can be black, white, blue, lavender, chocolate.

can you tell the difference between a black bird with white bars and a white bird with black bars ?

Sex-linked barring extends all the way up the neck.
