Does anybody know where i would be likely to find seville oranges? - not the MaMaid pre-prepared ones but fresh ones?
-
Suziequeue,
I'm not sure they are in season at the moment. If my memory is orrect I bought them in Jan/Feb and they are only available for a couple of months.
I have bought from a supermarket or veg shop previously.
I don't like marmalade myself but OH loves it. He is very partial to the Oxford marmalade I have made which contains rum but you can also do it with whiskey.

Jan / Feb usually. I bought mine in Tesco a couple of years ago. Actually, I bought about six bags - they were in the reduced bit, and froze half of them so they did two years marmalade making ;D
We're still eating it - we don't often have toast but it makes a wonderful steamed sponge pudding and a lovely addition to bread and butter pudding. In fact, I think that's today's pudding sorted.

Thanks - I shall have a look round the supermarkets when the time comes.

I've just made my first ever marmalade, using the tinned version tho it has no added ingredients whatsoever I'd still like to have a go with the oranges from scratch.
Just wondered how do you freeze the oranges please? I often buy things when available/cheap but am not always in a position to make stuff immediately. I've never heard of freezing oranges :o
-
Um, I just put them in the freezer. I wouldn't freeze eating oranges.
-
Do you peel them once they are defrosted Rosemary?
-
No, the recipe I use you squeeze them then just chop up the flesh and skin.
-
Oh - yes - I forgot - the whole point of marmalade is the peel!! ::) ::)
Haven't actually looked out a recipe yet.

I found Seville Oranges online at www.rosspa.co.uk (http://www.rosspa.co.uk) and they seem very reasonable. Might give them a go. Has anyone else ordered from this website before?
-
We got our seville oranges via the Cornish Food Market - www.cornishfoodmarket.co.uk (http://www.cornishfoodmarket.co.uk)
OH and I have just finished making 74 jars ;D ;D
Orange, Orange and ginger, orange and lemon, orange and lime, orange and chili
We should have just enough to last us the year   (OH really likes marmalade!) In fact I might get away with giving some away to our neighbours!

not sure where you live, suzie, but our local fruit and veg shop stocks them and I'm pretty sure seeing them driving by last week. Patterson's in Cupar, for you, Ellie ;)

Hi, we live in Spain & guess what? You can't find Seville oranges anywhere for sale here!
We couldn't even find any Seville Orange trees to buy anywhere here to plant!
It is orange season here at the moment & our trees have lots on. I use normal eating oranges, which we grow to make marmalade & it tastes nice, just use less sugar so its not too sweet.
Hopefully you will find some in the shops soon, good luck.

You'll find them on www.citrusgourmet.com (http://www.citrusgourmet.com)

I found some in Morrisons, Tescos and Sainsburys. I have them in the freezer until the house is built as I get a kitchen back :-)
