Title: Snow & strong winds for Glasgow this weekend?
Post by: tobytoby on December 01, 2011, 01:11:27 pm
I have just received our forecast for this weekend and thought i would share the joy??? Snow sat/sun/mon -1 to -2 each day. RSTs = road surface temperature below zero will mean frost/ice. Crank up the heating.

Friday afternoon will see the westerly wind strengthen with gusts up to 60mph. Rain will move in from the west, some of which will be heavy. The rain will continue for a time overnight but will clear towards morning and there will be frequent showers following behind. The wind will remain brisk. RSTs are expected to hold above zero. Saturday will be windy with showers, these turning wintry through the day as colder air digs in. Wintry showers, with snow above around 150m, will continue to pile in on the brisk westerly wind through Saturday night, Sunday and Sunday night, with some accumulations of snow possible over the hills and drifting in places. On low ground, heavy rain showers are expected. On Monday, a shift in wind direction to north-westerly should mean that the showers become a lot less frequent, although they will remain wintry, with further snow over the hills. RSTs will fall below zero each night from Saturday night onwards

Oh, dear. It might be a mistake.

Hope ours is right though - no precipitation, sunny, temps between -1 (Sunday night) and 5. Windy though.

Very wet snow came down heavily but melted soon after.  Looks like what's to come will be worse - brr .

We are forecast good weather for the end of this week in the midlands.  Hope so.  Need to muck out goats tomorrow and can't do that if it's wet.  :(

Rain !
At last we have rain. I have just been collecting logs for the fire from under the hangar and used the torch to watch the water tank filling. Great stuff.
We have had to use tap water ( and pay for it) for the birds and pigs.
My geography is useless. " snow over 150 meters"

I think we are at 500 meters here. Is that about the same as the Scottish borders or maybe Derbyshire?

We had some windy weather at the weekend but soon blew itself out and it became still and cold.
This morning we have an icing sugar sprinkle of the white stuff. Right on schedule the ewes that belong to our neighbour that we have wintering  with us decided to produce 3 lambs! (they're not supposed to be due until the new Year) oops. All singles and seem to be ok with their mums. Nature is a strange but wonderful thing.

500 metres would be about 1500 feet, so quite high.  We are at about 1000 feet on a hillside in southern Scotland, which is about 300 metres+ and we catch a lot of snow.

Today we have about 6 inches of fluffy white stuff - all very Christmassy but I am dreading the winter......
