I tried to do all those late November jobs in the garden today. The jumper was off by 10:00 and I was picking sprouts in my T shirt. The V formations of migrating cranes fly within a small corridor over our plot ( in eastern Limousin) have been passing south all day - just as they did in March when they flew north. Maybe it is a sign that winter will come at last or maybe they have just run out of food !!!
We need rain as I am reluctant to pay for water to change the duck ponds or save wilting root veg.
What has happend to the seasons?
My brother came back from Germany 5 weeks ago where a farmer told him that in 4 weeks time most of Europe will be gripped in snow for 8 weeks. Me thinks he got that very very wrong.
Fingers crossed we will get some rain soon and I can wear my new waterproofs and thermals!!!

Strange. We have had very mild weather. It rained last night but this afternoon, the sun came out and it was lovely. But it's cold tonight.

its cold in cornwall tonite. honest! well cold for cornwall, altho it is nearly december and this is the first cold night yet.

Hi - its bound to snow in four to six weeks time as our pigs are due to farrow then and some sheep due to lamb. We haven't got room in our barns for all of them - so hope they dont all do it at once. 5 pigs and 85 sheep - !!

Where are you?
This may sound silly but do you go to any lengths to keep them warm inside. Pigs - do they have an area with a low roof ( ark) or is the big barn and some straw OK for them? Mine have their bedding on stone in a corner and although the are under a mezzanine kind of floor within a tall barn I wonder about making them a little "ark" to trap their own heat.
How long will you keep all those sheep? Must cost a lot in feed.

when our pigs were in a 14x14 stable, they had a good 1/4 of the floor space with 3ft high straw and they literally slept in there, out of sight except their snouts.
